Thanks Bayou... I am glad to me back. I appreciate you noticing my time away. As an aside to my time away, I have at least cultivated a few more information resources regarding downtown and local economics; I am sure I will be sharing these with the group as time goes on.

Orange Grove development

Actually, the properties being built in Orange Grove are no longer rental properties but are "for sale". HUD has moved to get away from "the projects" to homes. Don't get me wrong they still have rental vouchers but the renters are now "neighbors" all over town.
Oh yea, I found out that only 6 or 7 floors of the RSA are occupied and they are the tenants that came from other downtown buildings with the exception of International Shipholding which in new here and has 2 floors. Bronner has his work cut out for him.

I don't even think most floors are even finished yet, just from observations two weeks ago while downtown. I've heard some interesting names for the uncompleted floors, though.

There isn't anything terribly important about Orange Grove housing project, so most of it and everything northwards toward Three Mile Creek could be demolished. Relocating police headquarters from Midtown to 'Orange Grove Center' should help quell crime over the long term. That delicious parcel of land immediately north of Orange Grove could use developed as a massive regional park with a bike/walking trail running towards west Mobile.

Police headquarters moving?

I know the folks at the police department and the headquarters will remain at the Loop. There may be a precinct office opened in the Orange Grove area but those are small but highly visible like the one in Happy Hills. That old headquarters building is lousy but the location is good for now; it was not built for anything high tech.

I was cleaning out some of my parents' old things recently and found a "shoe cleaner" cloth embroidered with "The Battle House Mobile, Alabama." Any idea when such an item would've been in use ?
Does the current Battlehouse hotel + tower have items on display from the old days ?

According to an article from the 3rd, it's about 80% leased with abut 90% of tenants being local.

I wouldn't say that........ the idea is still there. But he is not the only person looking. there has been general strong intrest in the downtown office Market from large outside investors.....The market is still pretty strong downtown (shocking).

Downtown growth

Bayou...The guy who was the managing partner in the Water Street Landing died and the new people can't make the numbers work. They had cut back on the number of units and were going to sell them unfinished to keep the price down. I know this having talked to the person who worked the deal. I think it is DEAD. To tell you the truth, I would rather not have the river view blocked with a high rise. I can tell you that there are several large hotel developers who are planning to build in our market. Downtown is HOT, very HOT.

well, I wasn't talking about the condos...but yeah it doesn't seem like it will happen.

And about the offices I don't know much at all about it not even company names.....no proposed projects just they are looking in to it......but I ralked to the head of the economic development at the downtown alliance and he said that there are some office firms with strong intrest and after attending the Real Estate Summit I can se why. It doesn't mean that there will be any new space in the near future. Just that larger real estate firms are taking notice after RSA made its investment.
