I've been hearing the office market in Mobile is extremely soft. Is this true?

Kind of sort of...soft but not extremely soft.. There is very little class A office space. That is why the RSA is doing better than what people thought. It is filling a niche that was needed downtown and in the city. The office market is picking up a lot with all the developments in town though. Its getting stronger.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 500,000 square foot multi-level Rouse-esque festival marketplace just north of the Convention Center. Pedestrial bridges crossing Water Street would connect this hypothetical facility to St. Louis Street and help spur in-fill development along that thoroughfare.

True, like everybody else say's, give Mobile five to ten years and it will be a great metropolis busting out everywhere. This is such a great change for Mobile and everytime I come home I see new and better just about all over the city and metro area. I am very proud of Mobile.

I think we are already nationally known but lets try world renown by 2025.

naw I don't think were know through out the nation, just mostly in the south. If u tell most people from up north or out west u are from mobile their like where is that. Mobile is mainly know by people in the sports and music world but not just by the average person.

Can you imagine a new multi-function civic area complex serving as anchor for an Orange Grove mixed-use development? Pedestrian bridges across Beauregard Street to the south and Water Street to the east would connect Orange Grove to Downtown and the GM&O Building.

What about all that land behind Orange Grove, we could fill that in with 3 and 4 story Apt. complex's. That would bump up the population and add lights to the city’s landscape. It would over all just make the city look bigger.

Orange Grove land

A lot of the land North of Orange Grove is swampy. It has been empty for a good reason. I don't think investors would put their money North of Beauregard as it is in a high crime area. I have been in there in the old days and it was not somewhere to be after sundown. The homes and duplexes being built to replace the apartments are staying empty because it has been very hard for the housing board to qualify buyers. There will NEVER be another project built as the government has been convinced it harbors crime and fosters poverty.

Great photos. Government Street around Government Plaza should see more in-fill development. I think Starbucks would be better off in a ground level corner space across the street and not constrained within the Government Plaza.

It may be swampy but that wouldn't stop anyone from building there. Almost the entire southern part of Hampton road used to be swampy land but now it all houses and buildings. But u do make a good point about the crime rate in that area 4 that I would just say make them Sec. 8 Housing Apts. I just think it's a big empty gap that needs to be filled. Look at Birminghams downtown you will not find an empty gap in the land scape.
