Previously release information from Translink showed the Mark I trains gone by then end of 2026, with low usage that year.
I think this new RFP for their disposal matches that timeline, but the wording is not completely clear.

Quote:
This Request for Proposals is issued by TransLink for the removal, disposal and recycling of its Mark I SkyTrain railcars. The purpose of this RFP is to solicit bid proposals from companies established within the marketplace that can provide the Services specified within the RFP.

The work is expected to begin in Q2 of 2025 and will continue until 2027 or all Mark I SkyTrains have been fully retired, unless otherwise identified or amended by TransLink.

There's always a line-up at the bus stop under the Granville Bridge near University Canada West.

I'd support a similar rule here tbh

Maybe I'm lucky - I haven't found it to be all that common.

Somewhat related. At one point Translink was thinking of playing music at Skytrain stations. I was against it as what one person likes could be hated by someone else - there's just no way everyone would be happy. I'm guessing a lot of other people said the same thing as Translink never moved forward with it.

I mean, you can't go wrong with lo-fi or the lounge piano soundtrack in every other restaurant. Were they just going to leave all the speakers on a Top 40 station?

I can't rem all the details (it was many years ago). I don't think they'd decided much on what music to play, just seeing if there was any interest.
Btw the music you mentioned doesn't do anything for me.

That's my point, actually - public music's supposed to be calm and forgettable and repetitive to make you more patient. If somebody gets more upset by the selection, they're doing it wrong.

With budget issues, they probably don't want to pay the royalties for playing music in public.

Muzak still attracts royalties:

Quote:
AI Overview
Muzak, while often used colloquially to describe background music, is a specific company and service that plays music in public spaces like restaurants and elevators. Businesses that use Muzak services are required to pay royalties to the copyright holders of the music they play, including songwriters and publishers.

Hey does anyone have any photos of 33rd or 57th on the Canada line during construction?

I heard a rumor that the rough structure for the station boxes already exist, but I'm doubtful of hearsay and would like to see some proof.

Detailed construction designs would be appreciated as well if they are still floating around

The Wikipedia article on the Canada Line references a Daily Hive article from 2017 that highlights potential stations at YVR, Capstan, 57th and 33rd:

Quote:
The six-year-old, 19-kilometre rapid transit rail line was designed and built with the capability to add four ‘future’ stations with relative ease. Four sections of the track were engineered and built to allow for the construction of additional station structures.
Four stations could be added to SkyTrain Canada Line
