I don't find these examples comparable at all; the CBDs don't look like isolated islands in these pics, at all. There's lots of density and midrises outside them, extending pretty far in some directions.

Look at that Edmonton photo again and you'll see what I mean. Looks like an island surrounded by some sort of green belt.

(It would be virtually impossible to isolate the CBD like that in TO or Mtl without resorting to photoshopping.)

I'm not even saying it's a bad thing, I actually find it kind of cool. The super clear "Big Sky Country" blue sky adds to the feeling too.

Haha, Skullet! They are seen in academia...among those cool/brillant profs that the students adore, but who are seemingly oblivious to how the passage of time has changed their appearance: their long flowing hair (or ponytail) has greyed while their hairline has receeded.

Ha ha..I know that stereotype, and it's a real thing..And yes among aging academics as well as aging artist types.

Anyways, great recent pics of Ottawa and that Edmonton University district. RE:One day, I'm going to try to get a pick from Billings Bridge looking down Bank street, unless someone beats me to it. I wish I knew someone in one of those towers near Billings at Bank..Ottawa's CBD is real tough to capture. At least from the Ottawa side.
