YYC-EWR is a premium market route, I expect thus route gets upgraded to the equipment that will replace first batch of E90s that AC wants off the property ASAP. All the transcon routes will get replacement aircraft with E90 only being yyc to western canada markets under 2hours.

I know someone at Air Canada who says the cognitive dissonance over the E190 has driven him half insane over the last number of years and says in the context of Milton's North American strategy they may have too many on property but it is still the right plane for many of the routes it operates and there is a fear that the reductions in frequency that would come to some routes with the introduction of a different aircraft might lure Delta, American or Alaska regional jets onto some routes.

...which would be unfortunate for the passenger. RJ's (especially the bare bones ones that American carriers utilize) simply don't compare with the E-jet. If, say, a CS100/300 were to maintain current frequencies in the place of E-jets, then ok, but I don't think that's gonna happen. I still think AC's future strategy lies in solidifying YVR and especially YYZ into their main focal points. YYC and YUL will lose some of their importance in the mainline network. Just my

WRT hub status, I think YYC and YUL are both safe and will likely grow AC service, especially through Rouge. The cities that are most at risk of losing AC market importance are:
- YVR
- YEG
- YHZ
- YOW

YVR could lose out as AC comes to the realization that Vancouverites just don't like them and prefer to fly Asian based airlines. Also increasing importance of YYC to the Asian market (coupled with the hollowing out of Vancouver's own head offices) could push traffic through YYC. Okay this last point is a longshot and likely to only result in smaller aircraft rather than cessation of service.

YVR also has the huge opportunity and threat with the 787. While the 787 is economical enough to make YVR -Asian secondary markets profitable(opportunity), the 787 also has the range to make YYZ-Asia nonstop (Threat).

YEG could lose out on the E90 battle, especially if there is insufficient demand to make up the increased supply. The dark horse for YEG is actually YMM, especially once the new terminal opens in YMM. Much like YYC-Asia n/s siphons traffic from YVR, so too will YMM-YYZ n/s siphon traffic from YEG. Finally and least in importance, there is the media feud between AC and ERAA/City.

YHZ could decrease if WS Encore makes a big pitch for Maritime market with Q400s doing the likes of YYG-YHZ. It is also unknown whether YHZ-LHR has sufficient additional demand to warrant a switch from 763 to 788. Also If WS builds a YHZ and/or YYT to Europe hub with 73G, then AC could decide to pull down the focus city.

YOW could see a decrease for same reason as YHZ. Addiitonally movement by the federal govt away from Latitude fares and onto Tango fares could erode the high yield low volume nature of this city into the dreaded low yield low volume. Removal of the E90s infavour of larger aircraft would see a large withdrawal of AC services infavour of putting YOW pax through an expanded YYZ and YUL hub.

More heavy metal: an AC 763 just landed YYZ-YYC-YYZ, operating flights 117 and 164 this morning.

People complain about regional jets, but they complain about frequency even more.

Things will clarify to some extent when Air Georgian's CPA fleet takes shape.

Likely implementation of an unofficial traffic Management Program. An official TMP is coordinated by the airport authority and implemented by the airlines. TMP bind airlines to reduce their schedule in proportionate and controlled manner if certain conditions are met. YVR has a TMP for the past five years, but I don't know if YYC has an official TMP.

Also schedule reductions are mainly instances where both cities are affect by snow (eg YEG), so pruning the schedule is appropriate as some aircraft to YYC-YEG-YYC turns all day.

Finally in light of the recent events in YYZ, airlines and airports are being a lot more conscious and conservative with snow and ice events.

Looks like just a ground delay program.

140060 CYYC CALGARY INTL
CYYC RWY 17R/35L CLSD 1930-1945, 2100-2115, 2230-2245.

With runway closures for snow removal it's very routine.

The weather moved in very quickly, There was an E-190 on short final to 29 that I could see clearly from where I was, right by the threshold of 26. Then out of nowhere it was just totally enveloped in snow, visibility dropped pretty much instantly. Listened for the reverse which you can normally hear loudly... nothing. It was kind of eerie.

Most likely Transat. Sunwing doesn't serve PUJ from YYC.

Heads up, Air Canada Rouge is hiring for a flight attendant base in Vancouver.

http://www.aircanada.com/en/about/media/rouge/documents/ACrouge_recruiting.pdf

Here is a quote from the PR:
Quote:
After a successful launch and first six months out of Toronto and Montreal, Air Canada rouge is expanding west and is today starting to build a team of rouge crew (flight attendants) needed for flights starting this spring out of Calgary and Vancouver, with further details on routes and fares to be released in the coming weeks.
Looks like Rouge will be coming to YYC. I expect an immediate announcement on LAS and CUN from both YVR and YYC plus Hawaii from YVR for the summer schedule. AC could also release the transition date for Winter schedule as well but will likely wait until this summer to release the winter sched.

Air Transat Flight Numbers

Hey guys, I'm coming to you as a good majority of you are in the know, so hopefully someone can answer this for me. This year at YQR, we are getting a number of Air Transat flights with 737's. I was just curious, who is flying those 737's for AT? We still are getting the A310's here, but not as many as we had in the last couple of years.

Thanks!

They are being operated by Enerjet for Transat.
