I have mixed feelings about that building (the Maritime Centre).
Growing up, it was one of the "main" highrises downtown and stuck out with its weird waffle-like shape. I always found it added a stark, "edge-of-the-world" quality to the skyline, but as the area around it fills in it just looks sort of awkward. There's basically 0 attention paid to aesthetics at this point - the top floors don't quite match the bottom, random windows are covered over with HVAC vents, and its sheer walls generate an unpleasant amount of wind. The retail areas inside feel depressing and useless (though I believe those are currently being redone). Still, it adds an interesting visual "wall" at the end of Spring Garden that really contributes to the character of that area, and its glass elevators have some of the best views in the city. The interior is pretty decent (nothing too special, but not uncomfortably bad like some office buildings from that era).
Occasionally Bell/Aliant uses some of the blank walls to project ads on, which actually looks quite cool, but for some reason they tend to only do this a few times each year. My roommates were actually the resident DJs at a large nightclub that was located in the basement but that moved to a "new" location last summer, inside a cavernous old bank near Province House.
