The 3 close ups do nothing for me. The last has consistent density and a well defined shape. I can see why someone would find it nicer than Toronto's. Toronto's lake to Yorkville skyline needs more filler.

Calgary's is similar to Vancouver. It's dominated by fewer, larger towers. The effect is not as impressive from afar.

Calgary's dominant towers are quite impressive though, the difference between corporate and residential architecture. Vancouver has more mass and density, Calgary has more flash, but most of the buildings in both are unremarkable, you're definitely right there.

Not sure how much density and mass makes up for a lack of so called flashy buildings, but once the Broadway corridor fills out (and that won’t take long once the official plan is finalized), Vancouvers skyline will extend for close to 5 km’s. It even Toronto’s skyline is that extensive.

Calgary has a huge advantage in downtown area office square footage. It's probably equivalent to 30,000 apartments units. I'm guessing the total built square footage is closer between the two centres than it looks in their distant skyline masses. I don't know if anyone measure this. It would be awesome to see some real specs.

How tall will towers on Broadway be? personally I think that area is more suited to midrise buildings.

There would be no noticeable difference from the street, so why not 30?

Yup agreed. Perhaps starting with a 3 is a psychological barrier for some.

Definitely not. The downtown peninsula is crippled by view cone policies to name one thing. And the downtown peninsula is seriously running out of room to maintain building the densities it currently does. Broadway should serve as a natural extension of downtown densities. In fact I am hopeful that Broadway will go taller than 30 stories with the Senakw development likely to go through - which has towers that rise up to 56 floors across False Creek, just north of Broadway.

Vancouver would do itself a favour by getting rid of view cones it seems.

Or, keep them but expand the downtown. Broadway is just one option. If you Vancouverites would throw a tantrum about extending the Skytrain to Langley like you did about the Surrey tram (and you should, because building a Skytrain to Langley is stupid), you might convince Translink to instead start working on a regional rail system for the lower mainland, centred on Pacific Central. You could go crazy building skyscrapers around there (and replace the WCE to Port Moody with a Skytrain).
