If Vancouver cracks down on AirBNB more, that will only help the hotel business. There seem to be some signs they are beefing up enforcement.

My building has a $1K per day fine if owner gets caught.

My building allows AirBNB but charges a fee to the owner, and there are certain restrictions. If you break the rules, you can be fined $1k per instance.

Like it or not, Viewcones is one of the reasons why we are experiencing such high prices here.

Vancouver is now a total rip-off for tourists, IMO.
Fact is none of the above comments are facts.

London has a significantly (almost 2x) higher ADR and REVpar than Vancouver. That's an astoundingly big gulf in the hospitality world.

Vancouver is a very seasonal market that is tough to make hotels work in. You make hay for a few months of the year but the remaining months are difficult and you really rely on the summer big rates to subsidize the low season.

Also the City, for all their faults, are not standing in anyone's way to build hotel. In fact they are actively encouraging it and working to streamline developers who are looking to build it

Evergreen response to Vin.

I do agree the City should actively try to expand their high/low seasons. The weather can be nice here well into October for sure.

A high speed train to Whistler would mean you could stay in the city and still ski there. A bit of a pipe dream though.

Don't need to have a high speed rail, just use the existing line to run a commuter/passenger train. It's been done before, no reason it can't be done again. Even if it was a bit slower than driving, it's an attractive option against the uncertainty of the Sea to Sky, and paying for parking in whistler.

AZUR Legacy Collection Hotel to open in downtown Vancouver this summer

A lobby eatery called Dahlia Restaurant will offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It will feature an art-deco-style dining room and a street-side patio where patrons can indulge in a menu of “diverse world cuisines.”

The second spot launching here is Lavantine Rooftop Restaurant, which the hotel is coining as “Vancouver’s first and only custom-designed, garden-like rooftop restaurant.”

Located on the building’s 14th floor, Lavantine will have panoramic views of downtown and the North Shore Mountains.

The fare here is inspired by the ingredients and flavours from the Levant Region. We’re told there will be an adjacent Skybar that will be the perfect place to sip on some cocktails and soak in the views.

If there are any mods out there, the AZUR Legacy Collection Hotel is now open, (so no longer U/C) and according to the reviews some of the promised facilities are actually available.
