I don't know if this proposal was ever mentioned here at SSP. This was propose about a year ago, so I'm posting it late. A pair of 36 storey towers totally 730 units.

Demo is almost done on the block and they have applied for a Building Permit for Phase 1..

I love the design concepts for the Christ Church Cathedral District.

That is the old design, and architect. It has been re-worked by a new architect, but no renders have been released yet.

Now I see it, T2 actually looks like the Christ Church Cathedral design.

Wow, that is a monster podium. I like the design though. Getting a Dubai Marina District vibe with all the super tall buildings tightly packed like that.

Yeah, yikes. That is massive. And I am surprised I don't find it terrible. It's a lot of similar glass, but it's got enough textural differences.

Not that I don't love tall towers, but I wish these were a bit shorter to create a stepped terrace effect with the buildings from the lakefront. I do like the overall design, and I hope we get to see some more renders, especially of the podium.

There is a good chance these will change, as they are renders provided to the city for approval. Those 2 pools on the roof look like an afterthought. I'm sure a final design will have a better hashed-out rooftop amenity area than shown.

I don't find the design "terrible" but I don't find it nearly good enough for such a large project in such a visible location. The podium is interesting and a little different so that part is cool.

That's what I was thinking too.

Maybe since the Toronto condo market is struggling, they'll reduce the size of these towers.

Another wasted waterfront opportunity for an iconic landmark imo. This design would even be an "alright" tower for midtown..

Also takes away the thunder from the SkyTower

The towers are a bit fat. Other than that, not bad.

A couple of new proposals for Calgary. Not exciting highrises, but exciting in that they are both for Calgary's East Village which had seen rapid growth 10 years ago, but has seen only one new build in about 5 years.

Lyric. Word is they are applying for a BP

Truman Hotel proposal for East Village.

For the first one, I'd pick different materials, but I love the built form and courtyard. Setbacks aren't always good, but it seems well done here.

Truman hotel looks great as well. Is it supposed to replicate something that was there in the past? Only criticism is that it turns its back to the river with that high brick wall. Looks like it's enclosing a spa. Would be better if they had a one floor section over that courtyard with retail/restaurant by the river, and put the spa on the roof.

Sorry, no. Forget the design elements which have potential. The scale is just bad for residential unless all you care about is warehousing people. (a.k.a population density)

The only vague positive is that it's proposed downtown where there's some justification for warehousing people in concrete environments with the super large employment cluster.

I'm fascinated by Dubai but, it's a disaster of a place and it's only becoming more apparent as the massive investor boom is rapidly completing these old high density master plans. "2030 Dubai" is a in vain attempt to fix it. Apt comparisons to that place mean you're doing something wrong.

The symmetry holds the Truman hotel proposal together but, then the signage will probably ruin it all. A neon(esque) marquee hanging off the side of the building is probably expecting too much.

Agreed. The back side is an absolute failure. Walling off the prime East Village Riverwalk gathering place makes one wonder what the hell is currently going on at this place.

Today, Live Nation Canada announced a multi-year partnership with Royal Bank of Canada to redevelop their music venue at Ontario Place. The entirely rebuilt facility will be called RBC Amphitheatre under the new agreement. The name change takes effect immediately, marking the next chapter for the long-running waterfront venue that opened as Molson Amphitheatre in 1995 and which operated as Budweiser Stage from 2017 until now.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the wall at all. If they need a separate courtyard for guests, at least have it up a floor or two and have some retail fronting the pathway.

There have actually been a couple of builds in EV during that time. Overall EV hasn't had the momentum it had 7 or 8 years ago. Increased issues with homeless shelters in the area have had an effect, plus a slow Calgary condo market. Another DP was recently submitted for EV, so here's hoping it can get back on track.

These two were built within the last two years
