Ya Molson Export, I've never thought of Montreal as a land-locked city being such a major port. Now London Ontario is certainly land-locked but that helped it become the lovely city it is today.

I almost didn't recognise that last Hamilton one. It looks almost all commercial.

MolsonEx and I have a good memory for these things. I just dug it up out of curiosity, here's how it started, about AB's landlock being a drawback.

When considering the absolute potential for future growth, I think climate is an important thing to consider, as well as lack of a coastline. Economic diversification is obviously a desirable goal, but people ideally like to chose to live where they do for reasons that are not just economic ones. Economic reasons are usually a last resort of choice out of bare necessity.
Which major cities in Canada over 1 million people have coastlines? Vancouver has an Oceanic Coastline... Toronto has a lake coastline... Montreal, Ottawa, and Edmonton all have large rivers, and Calgary has a medium sized river.

^ That doesn't answer the question "who said Montreal was landlocked?". The quote you dug up doesn't say "landlocked" and doesn't even imply it. The quote says Montreal doesn't have a coastline, which is correct.....

Agree. Montreal and Quebec City do not have coast lines. They're on a major river and have river frontage. Vancouver and Halifax are on the coast. Toronto has a lake shore. None of this implies that any of them are land locked.

It went for pages, that's only the first two posts, and some of the conversation doesn't exist any more (mods). Since MolsonEx decided to bring it up, you can ask him, and he can go from memory.

(And I personally am not going to answer that question, sorry. Way enough old stuff was brought up already, maybe even already too much. Seeing that so many people were wondering, and since I know what MolsonEx refers to, I decided to give you guys a tiny bit of info about how it could possibly have happened, but if you're not satisfied with that, then just consider it a private joke.)

Also,

Vancouver isn't actually on the coast. Tofino is. (It's obvious from the slightest look at any map at a zoom level that allows you to see a lot of Pacific coastline from Alaska to California.)

So... skylines?

Well I dunno, it looks good on its own merit, but one isn't really separable from the other, as they are basically one unit just separated by an imaginary line. It looks like it's taken from the Gatineau Hills. Beautiful area.
