Somebody that lives in Quebec, for 25 years and who is married to a Quebecoise, is being told that their opinion is less valid than someone that doesn't live in Quebec (in fact, lives on another continent) but gets their news from the Journal de Montreal (The Toronto Sun, but for Quebecois...yes that is what it is, I read the JdM daily for YEARS)?

Snow and winter are fantastic when you are a kid especially. They are almost indestructible and generally don’t care about the cold.

There are tons of companies that will do it for you. Either a one-time thing or often via a contract for the whole winter. All of the landscaping and property maintenance companies for lawns gardens and trees switch over to snow removal for the winter.

Also we do have a reputation for being nice and so it is very common for neighbours to clear out the entranceway of neighbours especially if they are older or disabled.

I have a snowblower so I sometimes do that. Especially if there is a lot of snow.

I should send you a pic of my driveway: I have had zero time to shovel this year, so I just ram through the “bordage” left by the plow every time. There’s a deep rectangle-sized hole the size of my vehicle in the driveway (one of the narrow sides of that rectangle touches the street, obviously) while the rest of it is fresh snow (including on my other pickup which is pretty much snowed in until spring at this point). There would be room for 4 vehicles in there.

Je n’ai jamais dit que j’étais en Floride en ce moment (pour les intéressés : je n’y suis pas).

Quand faut y aller en été, c’est moi qui m’y colle, mais quand c’est en hiver (il a fallu y aller dernièrement d’ailleurs), on est tous volontaires, et je laisse généralement mes parents y aller à ma place, car je suis gentil. Ils viennent tout juste de revenir au Québec, après quelques semaines là-bas.

Unhappy people? I've never met any unhappy person in the US. In France you meet a lot. What's great about the US is the positivity of people, even when they are in dire straits.

Also, yes some houses and neighborhoods in the US are deplorable, worse than in the developed part of Europe (US does things in the extreme, it's either extremely good or extremely bad), but by and large US houses are far better, more comfortable, and full of little devices and gadgets than European houses (especially French houses which I find terribly neglected in general).

Another thing that has always shocked me in the US is the quality of their beds and mattresses. Far superior to what we have here. I've had some of my best sleeps in the US.
