I keep imagining if the Super Bowl had come in, say, three more years, how much different the City would appear for the event.

^^^It looks like it would be fun at first, but then they got to do the same thing right over, and over, and over, and over... There's no way you can slouch. You have to keep up with the rest of the team to keep on schedule.

From yesterday afternoon (1/27) - the next level of rebar makes its way around the core perimeter, with 181's crane jump visible behind.

And one from today (1/28):

A couple green apparatus have appeared inside the core, visible on the Transbay cam:

Anyone know what these are? Part of the concrete pumping system?

Also, they're doing a pour right now on the 1st Street side.

Those definitely appear to be concrete pumps. The Transbay Center got a nice pour early today too.

I was reading an article about Wilshire Grand and came across a long post in the comments that included the following:

"...If you haven’t been keeping track, the Mayor of San Francisco is already aware of the Wilshire Grand situation and there is now a proposal to raise the height of SF’s Salesforce Tower past Grand Wilshire Tower by a few feet. It is high probability that this will happen, and Salesforece will be the tallest structure in the US west of the Mississippi after 2017..."

The post was from April 2015. Wishful thinking? Rantings of a crazed lunatic? Insider information? You be the judge.

^duh.
The system is set up to surpass and become the tallest in the west. 1070' is not even close to the potential and zoning for this lot (include roof height- which is zoned for 1000', and additional crown allowance).

WG will be the tallest for about a year though while this thing rises!

Huh, that would be awesome if it happened. Either way it will be the tallest roof/crown in the West. Us skyscraper geeks know that

Yes, it a good bet that the City is as aware, or even more aware of the situation than we are. I am sure the WG people are watching the Salesforce Tower project as much as we are watching them. There is even CITC in Philadelphia, and possibly 701 Fourth Ave. in Seattle (FAA issues) to think about. Remember your history. Let's at least wait until we are more confident WG will end up at 1100 feet first.

In the meantime, keep your hopes UP!

The WG has already reached the point where the steel is shaped at the top to the original intended height, so adding a spire higher than what they planned would look silly and disproportional. Unless they tear down all those upper floors and reshape the building to be taller. The spire will be up on that thing long before Salesforce is even close to being halfway complete so SF has the clear advantage there.

Yes, the main building height of WG looks fairly locked in. How silly would it be to be just as silly or more silly than other skyscrapers with even higher skinny spire height ratios already built? But anyway, let's look at what is already out there and see what we can find.

Saleforce Tower as we know it is currently set at:

912' = roof (zoning 1000')
970' = top of mechanical penthouse
1070 = top of structure (crown)

Look here:
http://www.thenextmiami.com/faa-appr...lest-building/

...And here: examine Attachments E 06 to 08
http://sfocii.org/meeting/commission...y-19-2016-2016

I believe those are all current 'roof' heights in Attachment E 06, but I'm not certain about Salesforce, and which of the above listed heights it actually corresponds to. It almost seems as if Parcel F was increased to compensate. The renderings look taller though.

Please note that no height changes have been officially announced yet.

...And there was this story back in November, which is consistent with the Brickell story back in June 2015, if you do the math regarding the Transamerica Pyramid height.
http://sfist.com/2015/11/10/sfs_soon...ilding_pou.php

Again, no changes are yet confirmed and things could still change. Let's wait for more and better information as it comes along, before we get too far with this.

Wink

Recently drove by both.

Last week in DT LA, I didnt realize the Wilshire Grand was so close to the 110 freeway but there it was, even under construction already a very imposing presence in the skyline. The supertall just screams LA, and I mean that in the most endearing way possible.

Today I drove past 181 Fremont( that thing is zooming up fast!), underneath the skeleton of the massive Transbay Terminal and the fast rising Salesforce Tower. What an impressive sight. It's all so different then from when I used to catch AC Transit's V Bus from Oakland and then walk to work at the old BofA headquarters. Good times.

Oh well, I guess it's true what they say, the only constant is change.
