wow, you guys have so much to learn about homelessness and the factors that cause one to become homeless. it's really not a choice.

don't get me wrong, i'm no advocate of the pine street shelter, in fact i think it should go....today.

homelessness is a complex social problem with very deep roots, it's not a personal choice.

I'm really disappointed by the amount of ignorance on the subject. Especially at a time when an increased number of middle class people are "choosing" to lose their jobs. Anyone who doesn't see the connection between personal problems and social issues that lead to homeless just doesn't get it.

What does homelessness nave to do with construction???

I know construction is slow and that there is nothing to really talk about, so go find another forum and stop wasting our time.

Why bother to care about Atlanta when Atlanta doesn't care about them?

Atlanta has no qualms when it comes to rolling out the red carpet (read: tax breaks) for businesses with the presented motive of creating more jobs, but oddly enough this effect never seems to trickle down far enough.

considering how frequently conversation gets off track here, you guys have any suggestions on how we can migrate good discussions like this into the atlanta subforum? maybe we can post a photo of a recently completed building to appease the gods.

my one-liner probably suggested more than i meant by it, atl2phx. i understand that the situations that create homelessness are complex. (even posted a link earlier from someone who works with them personally) i was just saying that for someone in such a down and out state, the last thing on their mind is how they can help make things better for anyone's situation other than their own.

(i was out with joe a few days back to shoot 12th/midtown, so i've done my part)

There was a blurb in the AJC today that G+G Architects won the Clermont design competition. Apparently their plan is to extend the lobby to the sidewalk with a polycarbonate box...and it would contain a "flirt bar"...
Interesting....that's a great practice....so all we need is a big spender to step up.......anyone?

I beg to differ, especially in a developed country like the U.S. That's why you don't see any homeless people with an immigrant background. Of course, this subject is for another forum.

Not to get personal but that statement is condescending enough for me to avoid any discussions on the issue.

So, back to the construction.

12th and Midtown is topped off and work is continuing on the crown. Photos from a dreary August 2nd:

Not holding by breath on this one:

Working on fixing the collapsed parking deck at Tech Square / Centergy.

Not sure when this happened, but American Apparel in Tech Square is closed:

Construction of Homelessness, or off topic?

If this isn't a two way relationship, then what are we really arguing, if not the continued subsistence of parasites? People who leech off the hardwork of the actual citizens of atlanta, give nothing in return, and expect everything back?

I live downtown. I work downtown. I walk past the pine st shelter every day. Those people don't care about Atlanta. And I dare you to spend a night there and argue differently.

Absolutely no comprehension of homelessness......My jaw literally dropped when I read this........really unbelievable!!!

This is not the right forum for a discussion of this subject.....these discussions of homelessness need to be deleted by the moderator.

Wonder why they would close in Midtown but stay open in L5P and Buckhead? I haven't shopped there but would have guessed the location and demographics were favorable.

they closed a long time ago. i don't think Tech students are like other students.

it's weird. that areas has tons of foot traffic. i'm not sure Waterhaven will survive either. Ri Ra, Bookhouse or something similar would suit the area better. Tin Drum does gangbusters. Lexington Chocolatier was really never going to work in a college area.

lols. Tech; a mainly male demographic. Doesn't make well for somewhere like American Apparel. When i lived at the village when it belonged to state, the guys would go over there to find girls due to lack of them at tech.

And to back up this claim (as i know everyone likes to dispute claims people make on here), its a 3 to 1 guy to girl ratio at tech; Information found at Tech's website http://www.irp.gatech.edu/apps/factbook/08_Mini_FB.pdf

they have been closed since last year i think. i went by there a long time ago and saw that.

and to have a location in midtown is a great idea, but on 5th next to tech wasnt. a lot of people didnt even know that location existed, and when they did rarely went. little five has so much more to offer than that area of tech. and frankly, what college student would blow money on clothes like that? they are really good clothes, just too expensive.
