Where is the absolute best place to see those spotlights? I was actually able to see them very faintly all the way from E Georgia @ Victoria the other night. That's really far away, so up close must be breathtaking.

it was looking pretty good last night, even against the gloomy overcast skies.

and as a general aside, there's something happening here in vancouver. i haven't been back much over the past few months, but now that i'm here with a lot of free time, i'm shocked at the breadth and degree of the discontent with the olympics. on the one hand, i doubt people around the world care too much about what vancouverites think of the games; on the other hand, i find myself with this nagging feeling that we're just a televised police baton on an east-side protester's head away from a 6 billion dollar disaster. thank god this accursed government cleaned up the dtes over the last couple years, i don't even want to begin to consider what might have come to pass at vancouver 2010 with dtes ~2001.

whatever happens, over the next couple weeks, we'll definitely be learning a whole lot about what sort of city we really have here, no question.

Well, the police know this. It will be the protesters tactics to try and antagonize the police, so that they can get the coveted money shot.

They are asking anyone and everyone to record the police action (not the protesters actions ), so that they can have this footage if it does happen.

However, I think you are overestimating how many of them their are. They are definitely a VERY vocal minority, as is usually the case.

They were going to be taken down, but then there was protests that this opens the door for nuclear weapons in Vancouver, because that makes sense.

Oi, major flap between the Aussies and the IOC... now this is my kinda protest.

IT'S a symbol of Australia's fighting spirit. Now the Boxing Kangaroo is at the centre of an international incident, with the International Olympic Committee ordering it taken down from the Winter Games athletes' village in Vancouver.

It can be revealed that IOC officials ordered the green and gold flag be removed just 24 hours after it was draped over a balcony - because it was deemed to be "too commercial".

So some Aussie fans got crazy and put up the flag ? Haha that's kind of cool but obviously had to be taken down.

No, athletes staying at the villages have been hanging flags representing their Countries off their balcony.

Such as this photo from mr.x

It's $6-billion only if you include the long-planned pre-Olympic bid projects like the Canada Line, convention centre, and Sea-to-Sky highway and treat them as if they were investments that would simply disappear come March 1st.

I actually wouldn't mind some oppression...these protesters need to be punished. I call it karma. Vancouver is simply far too left-wing for its own good.

The IOC should have an Official Coffee Supplier. Timmy's could've outbid Starbucks and been the official Coffee of the games. Imagine rolling up the rim to win tickets to events, or red mittens.

They do, actually. Far Coast Coffee. It's a Coke product. It's fairly new, and it essentially being demonstrated to the world here at the Olympics. It's already in movie theaters around town and has been for a few months now.

Oh well there goes that idea. Don't think Coke's doing a good job of advertising it as I had no idea.
