That would be a neat location. Walkability score with everything around it is quite high.

It’s confirmed the rendering is the project at O’Brien and Wilson. Two buildings with a total of 104 units.

Looks nice - gives options for west siders that want to downsize and remain in area.

So it turns out Agar Place was bought by a commercial property investor drawn by the stable tenancy of government offices, but the lot between it, City Road, and the Credit Counselling office was bought by the Wowchuks of Trinity Royal Dental through a numbered company. There's less than an acre and a half of buildable land on the one-and-a-quarter hectare lot; I believe that's the area directly between Agar Place and Credit Counselling.

Thanks for the information.

I thought there was a possibility this was the province collecting land for a new school but I’m glad I’m wrong. The school should be in the south end.

I just saw this week's Council packet, and it looks like a demolition order has been given for the failed project at 134 Taylor Avenue (Item 12.2 on the agenda), the private apartment complex that VIVA Developments tried to build.

It sucks that that project had to end that way. In my not-so-humble opinion, that was the fault of what were probably several long-time MacLaren Boulevard/Taylor Avenue residents who did not tolerate the idea of non-public housing being built in that area, and they chose to bring the hammer down on VIVA's heads, violently destroy the property, and essentially tell VIVA that they're not allowed to invest in a public housing neighborhood.

Would that be about right?

There has never been any findings publicly released so we can’t say for sure. But I think the fact the fire department is called to the grassy area behind this neighbourhood frequently for fires that the kids set is relevant. Sometimes they come out more than once in a day. I believe it was last year one of the fires almost got to single family home up the hill. Both the parents and kids have been told many times to stop and they don’t.

I hate to critique any private investor but if I was in his shoes this neighbourhood never would’ve even touched my radar.

On the subject of council there are numerous residential projects in there including Brideau’s QS development. Also lots of mention for the public space at MARKET SLIP haha.

Had never heard of Middle Street until today - likely because there's nothing on it until now. Great stuff.

I found this snippet in an article in the Bangor Daily News that stood out to me regarding increases in cargo trains running through Maine getting to and from the port of Saint John.

Presently 2 trains leave McAdam and cross over the border a day. That number is expected to jump to 12 a 500% increase.

With such a dramatic increase it will be a interesting to see how that reflects in the frequency and size of ships coming into Saint John.

I’ve never seen so may containers on our port - when you drive across bridge headed uptown it feels like you can reach out and touch them. With CN serving port, CP’s recent acquisition of a USA railroad that has tracks into Mexico and now CSX having port access, dare I say Port Saint John is the “no brainer” choice of ports on the east coast? The final piece is the 2 new cranes and upgraded rail speed from SJ through Maine.

SJ already outdoes Halifax in terms of gross tonnage. With the Port Saint John expansion, I think SJ will also be a legitimate threat to Halifax's container traffic supremacy.

We might see SJ becoming Canada's principle Atlantic coastal cargo port.

It’s very exciting to see CP Rail flex their muscle in Saint John. Their investments have already been noticeable and the best is yet to come. The new rail yard behind the container terminal is under construction and the Dever Road logistics Center has yet to start if I am correct?

With two new cranes coming in this fall I suspect 2023 will see ships larger than any other to call upon Saint John. Hopefully CMA CGM will add a new line and boost business. Maersk did a trial run last year to test the waters (no pun intended) and maybe in 2023 we will see an announcement from them.

3 new cranes I heard. Saint John deserves this. It's by far the most underrated city in the country.
