Tried 3 Boars on Friday night with some friends. Overall, not bad. I'll be super brief in the review. Tapas style portions ("sharezees" or something as they call them) = good food, but a little pricy for amount. Great drink selection. Great atmosphere. Busy and a good vibe.

Would I go again? Yup.

Went to MKT yesterday.

Not impressed at all. Service was horrible from the start, staff was FAR from friendly, our food took half an hour while people all around us, who came in after us and AFTER we had ordered, had got their food. And the food was not that great. Everything was cold when it got to the table. Tried to talk to a manager but one never showed up to chat.
The place is nice but everything else was, excuse my language, pretty shitty.

Won't go back.

^Well that's too bad. I've been there a few times and the service was good. We have never ordered food yet, so I can't speak to that. I still think the name is whack.

Truck Stop: Pulled Pork Throwdown on August 15, 2012
Posted on August 13, 2012 by sharon
This little piggy should be worried this week, when three of Edmonton’s best food trucks roll up with their best pulled pork on offer.

What: Truck Stop: Throwdown Edition
When: Wednesday, August 15, 2012
Where: Edmonton Public Schools Archives (10425 99 Avenue)
Time: 5-8pm

Join us on Wednesday as we determine which truck serves up the best pulled pork sandwich. To vote, we ask that you donate at least $2 to the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation in exchange for a ballot.

To make sure you’ll have enough room to try all three, the trucks will be selling slider-sized portions of their sandwiches. Make sure to arrive early to avoid disappointment!

There's a job fair for Chop on the Sutton Place pedway today. Talked to one of them, who confirmed they are opening in mid or late September.

Walked by Red Robbins on 104 today.

Name is changed.

Red Robbins Gourmet Burgers.

I am getting sick of all of these gourmet burger places.

Ate at 5guys on my way home last night. a lot of money for mediocre burgers and fries.

Yep. Nowadays, they are not even gourmet anymore as the competition ramps up and they have to cut prices. . .

Five Guys doesn't advertise themselves as "gourmet;" it's their simplicity that's their appeal - just a burger, some fixin's, and fries. I wouldn't say they're a lot of money, either, certainly better quality for your money than McDonalds.

Red Robin on the other hand, I know too many people who have worked there to know better than to eat there ever again. Putting "gourmet" in the name isn't gonna help.

Used to love Red Robbins burgers, but about 3 years ago they switched to pre-cooked bacon and fake cheese.... no amount of generic endless fries have brought me back since.

I think Earl's is pretty hit-and-miss. University Earl's? Meh. The Earl's in Jasper (the town) is amazing, though.

Still our favourite restaurant: Order the duck with spaetzle.

.

Tried Phoenicia (Lebanese cuisine) yesterday for lunch. Quite good, though the location (170th St) isn't convenient for us.

In other news, Pete's a Pie (best 'za in town) AND Pharos (new location on Stony Plain Road) have BOTH closed down. For all it's good restaurants E-town has a woeful dearth of quality pizza joints, and an abundance of 2 for 1 crap chains. If anyone can recommend a good pizza joint it would be much appreciated.

I went to the Whyte Ave Famoso with someone who's spent quite a bit of time in Naples, and gave their pizza a thumbs up. Take that, Famoso haters.
