Keep hearing that Craft Beer Market is going into the Westcorp building (old Hys). Can anyone confirm this? 2nd floor and new roof addition? Please tell me it is going to have a rooftop patio.

I am not aware of who will be taking the space, but my understanding was that the plans did include a rooftop patio...

New Indian restaurant venture a vote of naan confidence
By Nick Lees, Edmonton Journal July 31, 2012

EDMONTON -- Monica Kapur invited a friend to try a piece of naan bread in one of the family’s New Asian Village restaurants one night. His response gave her the vision she’d been hunting for.

“He described the bread as ‘naanolicious,’ ” says Monica. “I’d been looking for a couple of years for a way to present Indian fusion dishes that would be well received and help spread the word about how good Indian food can be. I liked the idea of different kinds of naan.”

Her just-opened Naanolicious restaurant, between the Princess Theatre and the Commercial Hotel on Whyte Avenue, is thriving.

So that's why there was a massive lineup out the door at 11:30 AM today. There was at least a couple of groups with kids. The window to beat the lineups keeps shrinking with this place.

I bought a Cert for Antonio's through the Sun auction site. Bid $50 for $100 Cert. Actually did that for 4 other places as well. Living downtown I/we need to keep costs down given we eat out a goodly number of evenings. ok... it pays for the bottle of wine

Heriage days was good once again, but I would love to see some additional seating and a couple of new 'attractions'. Perhaps more interactive elements or art exhibits or _____? That said, love the diversity of people, culture and food.

I like going every year. The delicious food, the riveting performances, hot weather and even hotter ladies and the overall atmosphere...very good. The po po do a great job with traffic control in the area.

That said, I felt a sense of same old same old. Just about all of the pavilions are the same and always in the same locations each year. Menu items never seem to change. The Netherlands has the same giant music box, Scandinavia the same Viking boat, Japan the same drumming troupe, etc. While I don't believe in messing up a good formula, I don't want to see this great festival become tired and complacent.

Suggestions for improvement:
- mix around the pavilion tent locations each year; if some locations are better than others, do a lottery for location numbers
- encourage the pavilions to change some menu offerings once in a while
- serve authentic grub, don't water it down for bland Albertan tastes. Last I knew, ginger beef was created here, not in Asia. If your cuisine is spicy, don't wimp out on the heat!
- park & ride at Telus Field
- the grass in the park should be mowed before the tents go up
- How about a Ms Heritage Festival beauty pageant? I emailed this idea to them once. Jack Little seemed to like the idea but it obviously didn't get any farther.
- advertise the fact that there's lots of food ticket booths throughout the site, so there's no need for massive lineups at the 2 booths nearest the north entrances

Went to the Wildflower Grill for Breakfast: wow! The staff are what I would call professional servers. Servers who, get this, love their job. The food was amazing, coffee amazing, very bold flavor. The ambience is charming. Can't wait to try dinner there!

Recap: What the Truck?! at Victoria Promenade
Posted on August 5, 2012 by mastermaq
Friday was sunny and warm here in Edmonton, the perfect day for a stroll down Victoria Promenade while enjoying delicious eats from some of our best food trucks. Thousands of people descended upon our biggest What the Truck?! yet to fill up on tasty food and the amazing view of Edmonton’s river valley.

It was probably the most diverse crowd yet! We think the sights and smells helped attract curious residents from the apartments above, and we heard from many other Oliver residents were excited that What the Truck?! was finally making a stop in their neighbourhood. But we think the conditions were perfect for others new to the food truck scene to take advantage of the location and the weather to experience this trend for themselves!

As organizers, we envisioned that an event like this would again help draw attention to what we believe is an underutilized space in the city. So although we admit it was a bit crowded, it really was rewarding to see people turning every corner of the Promenade into their own little picnic spot – from the curbs and railings to apartment stoops.

More recap here

Work continues in Kelly's pub.... a positive sign of what the outcome was at SDAB perhaps?
