Got to love how we have an excellent heritage restoration to much better than the past combined with one of the city's most tallest, striking, most modern towers and yet some people still are very, very, very far from being satisfied.

What's an old-timer, and 0.1% of what population? Are you talking about people over 65? If so, they certainly make up more than .1% of the population. And I don't see what's wrong in maintaining some kind of link to our city's history.

(For the record, I'm 33.)

the sign is very classy and fits the restored building well, believe me, it doesn't look dated or "old-timer"

It's great that they restored the old building, and if the old sign works, by all means keep/refurbish it... but why build a new old sign to replace it? What's wrong with a modern sign on an old building? Vancouver doesn't have much by way of heritage, but I rather let the museums deal with reconstruction of artifacts.

fyi, you have to be more than just 65+ to be an old timer... you gotta have lived in this city for a generation or more to be able to say stuff like "the 80's were better".

I wonder if it's Heritage Vancouver or if it depends on the owner / tenant - look at the Shore Club's modern sign on the heritage BC Electric Building...

And then the dust-up with Rogue at the CP Station:

restoring buildings is the thing to do right now with old fashioned retro original signage etc. peeling back to the original finished etc.

i quite like the retro feel of the sign

there was no old sign to refurbish, the old Hotel Goergia sign was long gone even before it was a Crown Plaza. the only option was a new sign. And it isn't totally old fashioned, it is LED lit lettering actually

I have no problem with the sign in and of itself. I think it looks good. My only question would be if the sign, with a sort of "retro Vancouver" look, is in keeping with the hotel building, which by Vancouver standards, is "neo classical;" Neo-Roman trimmings; urns, cameo relief, and so forth. Again, I like the sign. I'm just asking if a different style - something more classical - might have complemented the building better. A question of taste, that's all.

How about we all wait until we see an actual picture of the sign uncovered before making hasty judgment..

This always was my favorite Hotel, and hopefully will become so again.
- Jazz lounge and 1927 Lobby Bar sounds good.

The dark glass is reminding me a little of the lower half of Wall Centre 1... is the top half also going to remind me of Wall Centre 1?!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with restoring the building to its "as built" appearance, which included a similar sign.

watch the city step in when the glass is already halfway up the building and tell the devs that they need to change the glass.
