Yeah, when the skier crashes and burns they can just pan the crowd, without focusing in on their horrified faces.

This pic shows that the tents next to The Penthouse (Seymour @ Nelson) are for Irish House:

I love how some say childcare provided. I'd hate to be their kids.

These ones sound like a blast

The DTES Power of Women Group, with the support of DTES Justice for All Network, is organizing a rally to end homelessness, condo development in the Downtown Eastside, police harassment, and the criminalization of poverty. The protest will also be in support of the Olympic Tent Village.
I don't understand wanting to end condo development in the DTES. Not only do condos generally all bring in social housing now, look at what JUST Woodwards has done for the area.

An anti-war and anti-militarization event, this Stopwar.ca-sponsored "moving spectacle" will leave the Vancouver Art Gallery at 6:30 p.m. Protesters will demand the Canadian government respect human rights, international law, the right to self-determination, and civil rights. Ceremonies will award gold medals for human rights violations, war mongering, and police brutality.
I may have to lose my protest virginity and try to snap some photos of some of these. It'll go down in history

But, I may actually have like... things to do.

wow.

They are doing a good job of making Robson Square look like it was ripped out of a Joel Schumacher Batman movie... And not in the usual cynical/sarcastic way people would normally say that. It looks neat.

... is that what the ziptrek is for? Is the Caped Crusader going to glide down it and deliver Mister Freeze a kick in the face while uttering a forgettable, eye rolling, one liner?

I love seeing those spotlights on the roof of a couple buildings in the background of that pic. I wasn't expecting that at all. I'm also really glad that the ziptrek towers got wraps on them.

[QUOTE=Yume-sama;4681446]Global News is reporting a performer was very seriously injured during rehearsal for the Opening Ceremony.

The opening ceremonies will feature someone skiing down a massive ramp, and jumping through Olympic rings. He crashed and broke bones during rehearsal.[/QUOTE

Where can I find this article? Can you give me the link?
I went to Global News pages but didn't find the news.

I don't have a link for the report either, but I did see the report. It sounded like his ski caught some material on the ramp that may not have been as snug and secured as it should be, and he fell from that. The report made it sound like he fell before the jump though I suppose it could be on the takeoff as well.

They didn't have a lot of details, though it did sound like the skier had minor injuries. I'm trying to remember if they said he fractured a bone. I *think* they said he did, but I was working out while the report was on so wasn't watching it diligently. (Plus, I think I was half afraid they were going to suddenly cut to a graphic showing exactly what he was doing when he fell and I didn't want to know). They didn't show any details, but if they had obtained some I have no doubt they would have. I may have to impose a hiatus for myself regarding watching TV after the dress rehearsal. The same report last night went out of their way to show 10 seconds of some guy standing outside BC Place with some type of trainer practicing some rather innocuous hand moves as if they had the scoop of the century. So if you see someone standing in place and lifting both arms up at the same time, you'll know I and Global TV gave it a way for you .

Chow Times was (contest now closed) giving away a couple of tickets to one of the dress rehearsals
- and included a stadium seating plan and some instructions for attendees.

Go here for the info if you are interested in the info - *minor spoiler alert*

Volunteers are being given a free bottle of Vancouver 2010-branded Jackson Triggs wine when they pick up their dress rehearsal tickets.
