Heh. I remember Mickey DeSadist hanging around outside Jackson Square in Hamilton back in the early 1980s, a troop of younger wannabe kids aping his nonchalant punk get-up and attitude like he was the leader of a cult.

Then in the early 2000s I encountered him a couple times at a Friday night hang-out/impromptu jam at a rundown art gallery on Barton Street where I used to play guitar sometimes. He was really good-natured and funny. We goofed around musically a little bit. As a kid growing up in the 70s, his favourite band before punk was Mott the Hoople.

I've seen him a few times on stage. He's a real ham in a John Lydon kinda way. Cool guy.

For (Lord Asscrack Conrad)Black, as with Trump, the media is the chief rodent in the trench — specifically, the “lazy, complacent, boot-licking, myth-making claque of the Washington media, with its liars, defamers, frauds and idiots.”

It’s boilerplate anti-media stuff, written by someone who apparently eats a thesaurus with his porridge every morning. Coming from Black, a former newspaper owner, it is particularly odious.

For all his faults (or perhaps because of them), Black was one of the most successful newspapermen in this country’s history. His crowning achievement, the founding of the National Post in 1998, turned this country’s media environment on its ear — and it remains all the more dynamic because of it. Defending Trump is a legitimate endeavour. Defending Trump absolutely, at the expense of the free press, is inexcusable.

So why is Black doing it? Surely part of his motivation comes down to personality. In Trump, Black sees himself: a man wronged by the ravages of public scrutiny. In 2007, Black was found guilty of fraud — a case he insisted was the invention of jealous underlings, disseminated by a credulous press. Trump has endured similar slings and arrows just for being himself: rough, boastful and successful. Together, Black and Trump suffer from an acute case of alpha male victimhood.

There may be another, more practical reason behind Black’s championing of Trump. Kevin McCarthy found his way to Trump’s bosom with candy. Joe Arpaio, the disgraced former sheriff of Maricopa Country, Arizona, got there by supporting Trump when few would.

Black has a wee smudge on his criminal record. Perhaps, as Arpaio did before him, Black sees in Trump a kindred spirit — and a path to a presidential pardon.

Canada's second most odious asshole behind Kevin O'Leary. Actually he might be worse since he committed actual crimes and worked to shift the media as far right as possible, fancying himself a Canadian Rupert Murdoch. As a holder of a UK passport and previously a resident of the UK, allowing a twunt like Conrad Black to sit in the House of Lords like some sort of landed gentry is proof that things like the House of Lords (Senate) should be abolished.

If the UK was to take him permanently, we'd probably get stuck with an equally offensive twunt like Piers Morgan.

An acquaintance of mine has had to deal with Kevin O'Leary through business channels and has said 1 on 1 Kevin is ok to deal with and most of his persona is all just for show. That being said, if I entered a bar and there were 2 customers at the bar to sit next door and chat with and they were Kevin O'Leary and Conrad Black, O'Leary would be more entertaining. However, it is sort of like saying would you rather die via execution or poisoning.
