Mi Way 7 has horrible frequencies on weekends, though: 60-30-60 on Saturdays and 40 throughout on Sundays.

Route 7 is only one of the routes serving Eglinton East in Mississauga. Eglinton is mostly served by the 35. The combined 7/34/35 gives Eglinton an average 16-22 minutes frequency of service most of the day on weekends.

On Airport Rd and Morning Star Dr, the 7 also overlaps with another MiWay route, the 52B/D, which is contracted out to the TTC. The 7/52D service along Airport Rd has a combined frequency of 10-15 minutes all day on weekends.

7 is not the main route on either Eglinton or Airport Road. Its ridership is much lower than 35 and 52B/D, but for 24 hour service it is best choice.

If you haven't been to Toronto before this is what a pretty typical GO Station looks like and this is the baseline that stations are getting upgraded from to feature more substantial canopies etc

Took this today, Crosstown construction near Mount Pleasant Road...not sure why my phone had a blurred focus, but you can still make out some of the work.

Also, train installation has been reported a week or two ago by Metrolinx via their website and Twitter;

Edmonton is one small step closer to constructing an aerial gondola public transit line over the North Saskatchewan River.

Last week, Edmonton city council granted Prairie Sky Gondola with the permission to launch an early preliminary feasibility study on building a gondola from the city’s downtown district to historic Old Strathcona — an entertainment district with theatres, bars, restaurants, and shops. Consultants hired by Prairie Sky Gondola will conduct the analysis.

Maybe I wasn't very clear. I believe in a regional governing body like Metrolinx managing capital projects. I just don't see Metrolinx running the operational end and/or local transit planning from one regional budget being all that efficient. No company functions that way. My point remians, there will be more political willingness should the localized branding be maintained to some degree. London has fare zones so paying extra crossing over from "Durham Regional Transit" to the TTC is a non issue with full smart card implementation. The debate is on to possibly shift fares to distance traveled. The flexibility of Presto is endless. That is what was missing in the GTA.

As much as I am pro this, does Edmonton need both this and the streetcar line which is being reconfigured to provide more complete services?

Is the streetcar service going to be extended beyond the current Victoria Day-Labour Day schedule (And then weekends only to Thanksgiving)?

I would think that if infrastructure for a gondola is going to make sense, it would have to be operational year round unlike the streetcar, which is basically a summer attraction.

Although I have to say, having the streetcar operating year round would be a game changer for transit users living in the western part of downtown or Oliver. When I lived by Jasper @ 110, I seldom went to Whyte unless I had a specific reason to go, just because getting there meant a longish walk followed by bus ride, or LRT + bus ride. The streetcar taking you right to the heart of Old Strathcona any day of the year would be a phenomenal amenity.

Ottawa's new Trillium Line rolling-stock, the Stadler FLIRT. Seven of these 80 meter long sets have been purchased. They will run on the main Trillium Line along with two coupled Alstom LINTs with the other two LINTs running as singles to serve the airport link.

The expanded Trillium is set to open in 2022 after a two year shut-down.

The push right now is for a much more complete 'central circulator' system and the one idea is a 500M+ new bridge with low-floor LRT down whyte.

The gondola is $90-100mil, add in the https://www.highlevelline.com/ for another 100mil or so WITH year-round street-cars along with the heritage cars during the warmer months and you now have that.

The gondola would have 3 stops (Whyte/Rossdale/Downtown) and tie into major bus networks and Central LRT station. It will be designed to have capacity and timing similar to that of an our low-floor LRT.

The street-car line would be extended across Jasper with a new/old CP bridge and connect to MacEwan University and their new 112st West Valley Line LRT.

I like the idea of the high level street car being modernized and running year round. But if there's one silver lining to the new UCP government getting in, it's that it'll relegate this stupid gondola idea to the scrap heap where these type of novelty ideas belong.
