I looked out the window at around 3 PM and saw shadows for the first time today, then headed across the street to view it. A fully clear sky was probably about 15 mins too late, but the clouds were pretty light with many breaks in them.
I missed most of the pre-clipse but stuck around after people had left Gage Park and watched the sun and moon begin to part... what an eerie feeling to hear birds singing like it was morning, in the mid-day "dusk". And it was amazing how bright it did get just after totality ended. I read a lot about that this past couple of weeks, but to experience it! People were cheering and clapping at totality.
My heritage is Eastern European, and I have the noggin to show for it. So my cardboard eclipse glasses have arms that are juuuust a little too short for my larger-than-average melon. They worked just fine, but I ended up holding them up to my face more than wearing them.
And there's a CP branch line not far from where I live and watched the event, and a train went by just as the eclipse was ending. Hearing its bell and rumble, and the signal bells of the street crossing, was a nice coincidence.
