Not stopping the developer on East Cesar Chavez St. where yesterday drove by a huge hole in the ground.

I don't think it's true that it's significantly more expensive to dig for parking in Austin. Austin just needs a lot more parking because it's a very car dependent city.

For your second question, I assume you don't live here? Street parking is not viable at all. It's very difficult to find a spot and you have to feed meters, which despite being under priced are still pretty expensive if you are paying it day in day out. I lived downtown 10 years ago when parking was much easier to find and meters didn't run very late. Even then relying on street parking would have been a real pain that involved many tickets. I can't imagine what that'd be like these days.

I mean - its expensive to dig anywhere - but Austin has a lot of limestone just below the dirt which makes it more expensive than other places to dig.

We are an extremely car-centric city like most of the Western US and you are not going to get a major employer to lease in a building that doesn't have adequate parking nor are you going to sell million dollar condos if folks can't park their car.

There may be a day at some point where Austin is a city that is livable without a car (and I do know a few car free people - but they tend to bum a lot of rids).

And don't forget the cost to ventilate, the cost of the equipment and operation. That's why we see parking podiums with screened in coverings, 3rd and Shoal, Indy, to name a couple.

Yep - unless there is a requirement to dig or not provide parking the economic incentive is to put a parking podium on the building. Its also why we are punching outside our weight-class on height so its a double edges sword for sure.

Let's hope it's actually transformative, rather than another value-engineered glass box.

Here's the website, no renderings yet:

https://extraordinaryrising.com/

It seems like "Extraordinary" might be the name.

I just noticed that the new sales center was the same one they used for 44 East.

The name has been confirmed as the "Extraordinary" per the The Real Deal. They mixed up the floor count with 44 East.

Quote:
Friday’s announcement also teased what will be Intracorp’s fourth Austin project: a 50-story Downtown hotel-residential tower called the “Extraordinary.” The company’s other developments in the city are Downtown’s 44 East condo tower, which has sold its 309 units and is almost complete, and One Oak, a condo complex built on the 2.7-acre former site of a ragtag indie strip mall called “Slackerville.” One Oak, which recently opened its sales center, has received 300 reservation deposits for its 106 residences.

Based on the elevations on page 4, nothing ‘extraordinary’ in terms of the design. Looks like a taller Austonian.

I'm holding out for a new tower to be called "The Pretentious".

Allow me to offer this potential counterpoint...Intracorp refers to its developments as "extraordinary." There is a realitively decent chance this will end up having a unique name - not "Extraordinary."

It seems like you are posting without reading the preceding posts - specifically post #111. Yes, the name could change. If it does, we'll change the thread title.

Gotta admire a marketing department that jumps straight to adjectives. No proper name, just a descriptor.

2022, y'all -- mark my words, it's the beginning of the end of nouns.
