Steelwork wrapped up towards the end of April on this one. I believe the façade panels are beginning to be installed (or will be soon) -

regardless of how it comes out on the outside, i would think the acoustics and other amenities inside are much more important for something like this.

and of course, along with the greek church, we all will be just glad to see these finally completed.

New Renderings Revealed For The Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center In Financial District, Manhattan

Quote:
Exclusive new renderings reveal the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center, a 138-foot-tall venue under construction in the World Trade Center complex in the Financial District. Designed by REX with Davis Brody Bond Architects as the executive architect and developed by an independent non-profit company called The Perelman, the project recently topped out at the northern end of the 16-acre site, bound by Greenwich Street to the east, Vesey Street to the north, Fulton Street to the south, and Skidmore Owings & Merrill‘s One World Trade Center to the west.

The renderings are the works of LUXIGON, REX, and Rockwell Group and showcase the grand staircase facing the 9/11 Memorial, the main lobby, the performance venues, outdoor terraces, and how the marble will look up close and from afar.

Following the completion of the steel superstructure, the installation of the marble façade should begin shortly. These slabs will be illuminated from behind at night, transforming the building into a spectacular glowing cube.

The Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center is scheduled to open sometime in 2023 with an official date yet to be announced.

So what exactly IS the translucent cladding material? I really like the effect from the interior, as rendered.

My guess is that it's marble. Marble is semi-translucent. The Beinecke Rare Books Library at Yale has marble "window" that reduce the amount of light pollution, for example. For this building, I bet they'll put up a bunch of LEDs behind the marble panels.

Here's the Beinecke from the inside on a bright day:

Ahh. Good call - that makes sense! Sounds expensive!

Someone above mentioned the Beinecke Rare Books Library, but I wanted to see what the outside looks like to get an idea of what we'll be seeing here. This is an image of the outside on a sunny day:

From the recent picture of PAC construction from the YIMBY forum (as someone else found and had access to on the skyscrapercity forum), it appears that the marble tiling on the side of the building facing west is being completed first.

Coincidentally, the side of the building facing west is the side of the building closest to the east plaza of One WTC, which has already been completed:
https://newyorkyimby.com/2021/10/ron...manhattan.html

and which the newyorkyimby article speculates that
Quote:
A public plaza on the eastern side of One World Trade Center is finished, though still not open yet. Perhaps when the the marble for the western side of the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center is done, we will see this new space become accessible to walk on.
Also, according to this business insider article from December 2018 https://www.businessinsider.com/insi...photos-2018-10,

Quote:
They're also still finishing up the East Entrance of One World Trade Center. Barowitz told me that will eventually be the main entrance.
This could mean that if work on the marble tiling and other construction work will wrap up first for the side of the PAC facing west, the east entrance and plaza of One WTC might be open to the public as early as next Spring.

It's a bit confusing about why the building currently has a 2023 opening date considering how quickly cladding has gone up since early September. Possibly it has to do with a lot of interior work still needing to be done, along with the work needed to clad the base in black granite and paving the surrounding plaza area around the building.

From the second image, there appear to be barriers similar to an AquaFence® near the east entrance to the complex from Vesey Street. These types of barriers are also presently on Fulton Street near the east entrance of One World Trade Center.

Previously there was regular fencing in these areas. Not sure what the reason would be for new type of barriers being installed for the time being, although they are more aesthetic than the regular construction fencing.
