It looks like One Museum Place really is about to start. It was just announced that they're breaking ground this year and delivering units by the end of 2015. With the dirt already moving, I guess we can call this one "under construction" now:

Tech Square Labs to put innovation center in Midtown

[

The Office Depot, near Tech Square, will become home to a 15,000-square-foot incubator focused on developing information security, marketing automation, and business-to-consumer startups. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, The Office Depot site will become home to Tech Square Labs, that will birth information security, marketing automation, and business-to-consumer (B2C) startups. The venture is backed by serial techpreneurs and investors Paul Judge and Allen Nance. The innovation center, expected to open in the second quarter, is the first phase of a broader expansion Tech Square Labs is planning, according to sources.

The Tech Square Labs building is a block from Tech Square, a mixed use development shared by startups, venture capitalists, research labs, business incubator Advanced Technology Development Center and tech accelerator Flashpoint.

This Innovation Center announcement is yet another good story for this part of Midtown. Not only does it help with the branding of Tech Square but it also brings in more renters for the 1000+ apartment units either under construction or recently delivered. All of these units are in walking distance from this location. I'm sure the 100 "techies" who will work here are part of the target market for many of these highrise apartment buildings.

Hopefully there will be more of these announcements in the near future.

No, I think it means that they will re-use the Office Depot space.

Not exciting, but it will fill a vacant space.

Location aside, I wonder if the decision to retrofit this retail space was driven primarily because of the opportunity to create a flexible and open office space layout as suggested or if traditional commercial office space in this area of midtown is in short supply? I'm thinking if they're short on office space, it probably bodes well for the chances of the office tower Tech is proposing behind the Crum and Forster building happening sooner rather than later...

Paul & Allen are great guys and very committed to the Atlanta startup community (I'm the CTO at Tech Square Lab's first company). As the article mentioned this is *not* the only space they'll be taking in the area and I'm really excited to see if the area around Tech Square can reach the critical mass to turn into our own version of SOMA.

Big Bethel seeks big plans for Sweet Auburn rebirth.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle is reporting that Atlanta's oldest African American church — known for the blue "Jesus Saves" sign atop its steeple — wants to redevelop about 4 acres on its campus, in hopes of sparking more investment in the Sweet Auburn district — the cradle of the city's civil rights movement.Big Bethel is part of the historic King district, birthplace of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The church is a Sweet Auburn landmark — and pivotal to the area's future. It controls 13 parcels and more than 7 acres at Auburn Avenue and Jesse Hill Jr. Drive, including 182 housing units known as "Bethel Towers."

The scope of the proposed redevelopment could include more affordable housing; new apartments; the rehabilitation of existing commercial buildings on Auburn Avenue and the development of new mixed-use projects, according to the request for qualifications issued on October 15th by Big Bethel along with Central Atlanta Progress.

So, does this new render of Northpark mean it's going to get started or got approval? Or are they just updating the render.
