Winnipeg will never financially recover from this without serious fed and prov help...cost of the sewage plant is now estimated (conservatively according to the article) at $3B.

Likely would have been much cheaper if they had started in 2003 instead of dithering and waiting until 2021.

Nobody builds condos anymore. Only 15% of new multi family is condo. All suburban greenfield.

This feels problematic: If you want to live in a low-climate-impact urban form, you basically have to be a renter for life?

Maybe that's just where things are heading -- MFR buildings are complicated to maintain, secure, insure, etc... so it's really a game for professional property managers?

But this still feels like a bad trend, since the vast majority of Canadians aspire to own their own home. If the only way for them to do so is SFR, then we're going to be stuck in affordability and infrastructure crises forever...

Word is the Access Credit Union/171 Donald is massively infested with mice. One of the employees stepped backwards one day and skewered it with her high heel.

Amazing light though.

Is your website no longer up? I think it was called Build It Up Winnipeg right?

Rodents are common to a lot of buildings downtown. The property manager probably cut back on the monthly exterminator visits to save money.

An aggressive control program by a good exterminator can get rid them over a couple of weeks.

Condos have a much higher % in most other Canadian cities so I wonder what
the reason for such low uptake in Winnipeg is? I also wonder if this
will be the case going forward?

I don't know why but condo fees here are surprisingly high for some reason. Higher than Vancouver or Montreal. So if you also have a mortgage to pay, it can be a really expensive proposition. On the flip side, houses are less expensive here than other major Canadian cities, which makes condos less appealing. Why pay all that money to live in an apartment when you can have a house? Unless you prefer the condo lifestyle, that is.

I have worked in newer buildings all in the general Polo Park area over the years and all buildings had mice even with consistent exterminator visits and preventative maintenance.
