I'm so far unimpressed with the way Stages 1 and 2 have been progressing. It's like they're not taking this seriously. Meanwhile, the current bus service continues to be slashed and reliability is is trending down while fares are rising fast.

The worse thing possibly is that the City is touting Stage 1 as the saviour of our transit system, as if this short line will make the entire system unbelievably fast, comfortable and reliable. It won't. It's going to be a pain until Stage 2 opens (and Stage 3 for Kanata and Barrhaven), if it ever does.
I couldn't have said it better

And it won't do anything for the main downtown local routes along Bank, Rideau, etc., except make things worse as more and more resources get pulled from the bus portion of the transit system, and more and more bus resources get pulled from urban routes to be reassigned to the politically powerful suburban areas.

Every time I start thinking that the bus system within downtown can't get any worse, it gets worse.

Are we sure Phase 2 is going to take place on time?

I am reading on the Canadian transit thread that the Ford government is putting in private sector funding requirements for GO and subway projects. It is sounding that GO RER will be curtailed. A number of RFQs have been cancelled. This is all so predictable given the vagueness of the Ford platform.

Ford confirmed funding before, during and after the election. He did so again in December when Watson went down to Queen's Park for a conversation with him. I don't believe he will stick his nose in Ottawa's affairs as he is too focused on governing the GTA. For now. He might get bored in a couple years.

We do know that Sage 2 won't take place on time however. It's nearly 2 years late already as it stands (contract awards were moved a year from Q1 2018 to Q1 2019 while construction moved from Q1 2018 to Q4 2019, based on media reports).

I bet the City is currently negotiating with proponents on cost cutting measures because the bids were higher than expected. Haven't heard anything, just a bad feeling.

FEDCO's next meeting in early February, so hopefully we'll have an update in the next 30 days.

What's that for? The portal for the Richmond/Byron tunnel?

Good Day.

Yup....going west, the Byron / Richmond Rd. LRT cut-and-cover tunnel at that point shifts slightly to the north side of Richmond Rd. before then curving southwards to cross under Richmond Rd., to exit into the east side of the Pinecrest Creek valley just before the Richmond Rd. bridge over the valley. This necessitates the gas bar, at the least, being gone.

EnJoy!

The City also included 1181 Richmond as a potential "station oriented development" site... so the remainder of the site may be sold for redevelopment.

Good Day.

...... so.... the City is possibly reserving the entire site / area as a construction staging zone, and then sell it off........
Amazing what we have to surmise without expropriation records, or plans, or winning bidders, or .......

Interesting!

This one was on the list to be expropriated and in the original EA as property the City needed to purchase. I think we are supposed to get an update on the Station Oriented Development negotiations as part of the Stage 2 contract award next month.

Good Day.

Ah so..... missed that one. Got it.
I knew they were going for it for the RoW, but not for the full "facilitate".
Thx.

Agreed. If we are going to rename LeBreton to Pimisi, Baseline should certainly be renamed Algonquin, both for the collage and in recognition of the land.

Absolutely. I also believe that Dominion station should be renamed Kitchissippi.

+1. I would also rename Westboro to either Athlone or Tweedsmuir, given that Dominion (to be renamed Kitchissippi hopefully ) also serves Westboro village. I'm not sure which is better suited. Tweedsmuir is a much longer street than Athlone, but the name Athlone is shorter and its spelling/pronunciation is more intuitive. (I live on Tweedsmuir Avenue and I constantly have to tell people how it's spelt whenever I'm giving out my address on the phone for whatever reason).

I don't know. I like the name Dominion. Not only is it named after the nearest street, but it plays homage to our country, The Dominion of Canada, which seems appropriate for the Confederation Line.

And Kitchissippi is easy to spell? Tweedsmuir may not be easy to spell correctly, but it isn't so strange that you would have troubles finding it.

I don't have a problem with the name Westboro (we would have several stations in Kitchissippi Ward (or somewhat near the Ottawa River if you use that reference), so I don't see the conflict), but if we did want to rename it, why not name it Kitchissippi?

I like Dominion as well.
Oh well, changing names seems to mollify folks instead of doing the difficult work required to bring about real change.

I completely disagree with that. It is the main station that serves Westboro Village and should thus remain Westboro Station. Very few people travelling to that station are going specifically to Athlone or Tweedsmuir, so it does nothing in terms of improving intuitive wayfinding for most users.

That is a good point. It is the primary station for those going to Westboro village. The average person wouldn't know that Athlone or Tweedsmuir are in Westboro.

Dominion is a bit different as it is primarily used by those living nearby. Besides, I don't see Kitchissippi as being any better at helping you figure out if it is the station you want.

As has been discussed in the past, I would rather see it moved a bit further west, but those using it would complain louder than those who would benefit from the move.
