It's the large parking lot across from Staples between Figueroa and Flower just north of 12th/Chick Hearn Ct. and south of the liberty grill.

I'm not sure why they start out short but I know they jack them up as they need them to go higher. Hanover started out short but was jacked up later. 717 is alot taller but I don't think tall enough for the final height of 717. Elleven was the full height from the start. I would like to know why as well.

That's very exciting news if that's the case!

I just took a look-see walk around the block, and saw the concrete. It looks like a crew has gone around the perimeter of the property along 11th and down Figueroa, pulling up the concrete landscaping curbs (as well as the landscaping). The concrete chunks are piled up in a cordoned-off area, but so far no asphalt has been broken into.

Also noticed that there are a couple Morley Builders job signs up, though I don't know if those are new or not.

Yes, angelenic is my blog.

Re: photo update, I'm assuming you're referring to the forum meet photos. Frankly, I think the other forumers who participated in the meet took some really great pictures that cover just about everything that's been covered here in recent weeks. Photos of Chinatown, Olvera Street, Little Tokyo, Broadway, Historic Core, Grand Ave, etc. Those are all available in the "My City Photos" forum. I may post some of my own, but honestly, it wouldn't add much.

Re: Medallion

I've been spotting little things that have been popping up lately.

The east side of the parking lot has been freshly painted and with new parking strips and very nice green metal gates at all the entrances and exits. The west side hasn't been touched.
It looks like the west side will be developed first.

Also, the power to the lights in the parking lot have been disabled. Joe's parking has had to bring in a portable lighting rig to light up the parking lot at night.

This morning I spotted two city engineers wondering around below on the west end of the parking lot. I don't know what to make of that.

That's it for now.

I sent an email to both Morley Builders and Moinian Group re the work going on at the Fig Central site to see if I can get any more info. The only info I received thus far is that the contact address for the Moinian Group apparently doesn't work - cause it bounced back to me.

Yeah, we're over 8 months now. Hopefully his next project will get underway soon, since he said every 6 months.

This is my first post, just wanted to share some pics taken on Sunday at Luma/Elleven. This thread has kept me up to date on a lot so it was my turn to contribute just a little.

When is the retail moving in? The salon sign has been there for many months. The Castlewood Realty has no property listings? The furniture store seems quiet. Starbucks is doing well, but it would be nice to see some more activity in South.

No news about the other retail, but the salon had its door open on Sat and there was a lot of activity going on inside. It looks ready to open to me.

Yes, where is all the new retail? South Group, Market Lofts, Vero, all or mostly empty new retail. You would think with the apparent success of Ralph's they would all be open by now.

Retail usually trails building opening by at least six months downtown. If you look at every other building, that's been the case. In most cases it takes a bit longer due to the City's inane approval procedures. Ralph's was the exception to the rule because of the supermarket aspect to it.

Oh, and Kev, welcome to the forum. Great first post.

All is quiet on the Medallion front. Here's a brief photo update.

The first shot is of a group of people checking out blueprints, think the guys in the safety vests are city engineers.

This is looking down Main St towards Third. These gates are the new green gates that are located only on the east side of the lot.

New signs are being installed. (note the new price)

The newly repainted east side.

This is looking east from Fourth St.

The last shot is of the parking lot renovation on Main St.
Square holes are being drilled out for ventilation. Lots of construction going on inside.

Not much going on at the moment. But I think it's the calm before the storm.

^Thanks Petescafe! Great photos. I wonder why there is some last minute plan checking on Medallion. Why can't they just bring in a fleet of dozers and raze it all in one afternoon?

The St George Hotel across from the east parking area is such a great building. I realize there's a need for SRO housing in the area, but part of me wishes these charming historic buildings could become an asset to the emerging OBD neighborhood. I guess street level retail in that building is out of the question right?
