Three Alliance Center office tower construction begins Aug. 1

Web site The Buckheadview reports that Tishman Speyer has confirmed it will begin construction on the $175 million 30-story, 500,000-square-foot Three Alliance Center office tower on August 1. It will be the first new office tower in Buckhead since 2008 and the first with a “faceted glass curtain wall system” in the Atlanta market.Three Alliance joins the One Alliance and Two Alliance Center buildings on Lenox Road at GA 400 in Buckhead, and would be the largest pure office building built in the market since 2008, with more than 500,000 square feet in 19 levels of office tower and 10 levels of parking, totaling the 30 stories. The New York-based developer plans to deliver Three Alliance Center in September of 2016.

Awesome! I don't remember this ever being approved though. Weren't they reluctant to put commercial on the first floor or something like that?

I also remember that the project at the lot of 6th and Peachtree across from Skyhouse was going to break ground in August. Is that this project and I'm just confused, or are both going up?

You are thinking of 811 Peachtree across from Skyhouse. They have to resolve some property line issues before they can move forward. 782 Peachtree is the SW corner of Peachtree and 5th.

i don't ever remember the DRC approving it; getting them to put any sort of retail on the first floor was like pulling teeth. i went to their second or third DRC meeting, and only then had they put some sort of "clubroom" facing peachtree. i went back like 3 months later and they just then had put a couple of retail spaces on peachtree— with a huge corner space being the leasing office. the guy developing the property was from texas and wasn't used to the standards the midtown DRC holds developers to.

Took these yesterday.

782 Peachtree. Note: there is a yellow piece of equipment behind the tree on the right that's difficult to see.

Centergy North.

University House. Finally got a floor going up:

Nothing is planned now but I'm sure it'll fill in eventually.

Based on this picture of whats on the truck, my guess is that they are just doing soil boring samples. I'd say if that is the case you are still months away from construction. That's typically done prior to permitting design drawings (used for the structural design).

Remind me to never ever live there. A building going up that quick has got to have so many problems / poor quality ...

Such a bold statement. What would make you think the quality is less than a project that takes longer? Construction techniques and scheduling are getting more refined all the time. Note that the project went vertical before the ground floor slab as well. This allows the structure to be built and the 1st floor slab to be done at a later date. This technique increases production as many trades can be triggered at an earlier date.

WOW!!! I didn't realize you was so ignorant…the tower isn't a large tower as far as width. Once a building has it's foundation, laying the concrete doesn't take long. You would think someone being on the forum as long as you have would know these things by now. It goes to show the person that said that the forumer that's been here for more than a decade opinion has more weight…is simply absurd.

Reinforced concrete construction is a very robust method, and fast - especially with the increasing efficiency on repetitive floors in very tall buildings. And don't worry buddy, there is LOTS of science behind Materials and Methods in this industry!!
Subscription to ENR would help - http://enr.construction.com/Default.asp

A quick search-
http://www.rew-online.com/2011/06/01/1-wtc-rising-on-super-concrete/

And if you think that tower in midtown ATL is going up fast, check out "slipforming" - an American-developed technique, which is what was used to construct the core at IBM Tower/One Atlantic.
