That first shot is great, cityofblindinglights. You even managed to make the Clare look halfway decent.

I do concur that as the tower portion rises and is finished, it is becoming significantly more attractive proportionately and makes a bit more "sense." The car court still feels rather misshapen to me.

Maybe Ten East Delaware just hasn't taken a recognizable form yet, but I might have expected the two towers to be a bit more contextual in regards to each other given they were both designed by the same architect at the same time. The extent of the context/interaction between the two seems to me to be merely that Elysian's car court is positioned so as not to block 10ED's north views.

The precast? No paint, what you see is what you get!
Hopefully it will get "painted" by pigeons and accumulated dirt. It looks rather flat to me, it could use a little texture.

^^^That's precast that has pigment mixed in. That's the final color, as designed.

Thanks for the photos Andy. I need to go see this one in person again, but to me the precast is looking decent. The color doesn't look fake, there's variation. It's 10 times better than painted concrete, and it's better than Park Tower.
For good or evil, the precast is doing what the architect intended it to do. 90% of passer-bys will think it's limestone.

I very much doubt that they will do anything more to them at this point. It's just not efficient. Maybe in 50 years.

It turns out better and better the closer we come to the inauguration

I'm pretty excited to see how they're going to implement the intended ornamental/detail work. Especially the roof will be some hot potato!

I have something positive to say. I find this building much less agitating than Park Tower, I think its really the not rounded balconies fitting in with the other shapes as well.

Park Tower, is that the one in front of the Water Tower? If so, I love that building, when I was in Chicago a couple months ago I was very impressed by it.

Anyways, how many floors left? It must not have many until its TO.

as much as people may decry the quality of materials in use or its design in general, honestly, when viewed from the street, this is such an impressive and soaring tower. the art deco inspired verticality of this tower, as well as its setbacks, really do make it seem much taller than it is, and really make it an attractive building overall.

This nice photo was over in the Trump thread.

For once, I can confidently say that I like the way the Elysian looks in this photo!

^ In the same sense that Mies liked the early highrises before they were clad.
