Jokes are usually funny, but my response was short of an "attack". What I mean is that the majority of units sold for this project from the beginning were from the sub constractors aka "trades" of the Icon project such as the forming, electrical, plumbing, trades etc. It's called buying into the project which is a common practice among condo/arena/stadium/ projects. The owner requires the contractors to purchase units, suites, season ticket packages and so on, prior to issuing their contracts.

If the Icon project had never had this as a requirement, the sales would have been even lower than they were prior to construction.

Typical of most high rise projects I am willing to bet sales will pick up as the structure goes up. Always a harder sell when things are just a concept these days.

What is the skyscraper forum verdict btw? Will this be Ottawa's tallest or will others beat it out or soon surpass? Campeau has held the title for an awful long time. No matter which company does it it will be nice to see upper limits surpassed.

There are no current taller proposals under construction however, I believe that based on the slow progress of the Icon project, Trinity Centre at Bayview, which could start construction within a year, might take the title before Icon.

Realistically I don't think Trinity will beat Icon but I doubt Icon will be tallest for more than a year.

Icon projects its occupancy for April 2020, Trinity Centre publishes that it will open Summer 2020. It could be neck and neck getting to 45, but since Trinity Centre is supposed to be 50 storeys, it would have to go up faster.

Considering that the Icon project is already at Floor number 3 and Trinity doesn't even have a crane up yet, I think it's obvious who will top out first. But I would love to see the Trinity project start construction.

Every time I drive past this area on the highway I get excited about the building heights. Can't wait to see how the Icon impacts the area and the city.

This project seems to move little faster than last year. According to the price list on January 23 2018 124 units out of the 320 units is sold so far, it is almost 40 percent.

drove by this weekend.

This project is going to be quite impressive from a height perspective. They've completed 4 stories of the podium and its already got quite the presence from street level.

The whole area is really in transition with the 18 storey project behind and the student residences under construction. But I can already gather they will all be dwarfed by this tower.

I know its Claridge and this board isn't a huge fan, but I am quite jazzed about seeing a 45 storey building rise in this city.

Totally agree. Regardless of what people say, Claridge is good for Ottawa. They invest more in our DT core areas than other developers. I respect their hustle.

yes the excitment - similar to what we felt with Claridge Plaza on Rideau and if I could remove that blight from the city I would - only when Icon is finished as rendered will I then give kudos to Claridge
