500 Parkview passed its design review at the last PC meeting despite significant NIMBY opposition. It didn't get much attention because of the theatre tower shenanigans at the same meeting.

I herd that Genies Smoke shop stopped the new tallest from being built because of some parking easement with the old Carl’s Jr. parking lot, and now the developer has to go back to the drawing board… anyone know if there is any credibility to this info?

This is only one possibility, to my knowledge. The judge will decide at the hearing on August 3rd. I posted about it on the previous page of this thread.

I'm so glad that broke through the NIMBY opposition. Imagine being opposed to a 3-story building with ground-floor retail near the most popular park in the city.

Keep us updated Atlas. Would be a shame if this wasn't allowed to go forward. What you said on the previous page makes me optimistic that we'll move past it quickly. This and the theater fight are giving me some uh, development anxiety? Is that a thing?

Could someone in the know post how many floors the CCH is up to now? Unfortunately, not a lot of pics of developments here. I know that posting pics on this site sucks the big one, but perhaps someone who is an excellent writer could write colorful explanations of what's going on.

Then again, what do I know. I've only posted 249 times. (OMFG! I crack myself up sometimes!)

Nice photo by the way.
I really hope so. I think the 'nightline' is equally as important as the skyline.

95 State is so wide on its east & west face that the crown being lit up would make a rather significant impact on the nightline.

I would really like to see more interesting lighting designs for future towers, such as lighting up the spines of the buildings for example.

Based on this recent image I'm going to guess floor 16, that would leave either 10 or 12 to go. 10 floors of residential are showing in this image and there are 6 taller floors below that. My post count is very low so use this information at your own risk lol.

If I had to guess I would say the lighting on 95 State will likely be similar to 111, that said I hope they surprise us with something bolder. I agree SLC needs to step it up a notch in tower lighting. I'm not suggesting Vegas 2.0, just something a bit more edgy.

I came across this shot of the CCH on LinkedIn. Seems to be about a week old and "9 more levels to go."

I agree that Liberty Sky does look too tall and a little too wide and Astra seems a little too short. Also, you're missing the CCH and SWT, and Sundial should be orange. Otherwise, looks great!
Thanks for the welcome!

So yeah, any discrepencies are because I don't have drawings, or I didn't have much time when I modeled it, or I don't really care that much. *shrug* Liberty Sky was a case of no drawings and I quickly modeled it from memory of an early rendering I just glanced at. I haven't really felt compelled to revisit it. I've been thinking of getting a unit tour and that might motivate me.

I haven't set my mind on the Convention Center Hotel yet since it isn't multifamily, which is what the yellow actually designates. And yes, I modeled the Sundial but that was just because it's right next to that underwhelming FFKR multifamily project on the corner. The CCH is obviously going to be a major part of the skyline, so I will get to it eventually.

And South West Temple hasn't really been on my radar. I've just been working on smaller prospects around 600 S, I've got a lot I want to fill in east of 500 East downtown, and almost 10 years after that first Fleet Block RFP debacle, I'm thinking of revisiting the Granary District.

And I apologize if this is spammy but here are those lower views. (And this is why I was hoping to migrate over to Blender, so I could get some actual renderings rather than SketchUp's crappy views.)

Super cool, Enemy4thePeople, thanks for sharing. With how few real impact towers we have in SLC, just the few we're seeing are making such a difference on the skyline and density of downtown.
If we truly get the Astra and Worthington (or whatever it's called) breaking ground before the end of the year, 2021 will have been a real game changer for Salt Lake.

Also, walked by the Exchange today, and it's wrapping up construction. They're finishing the sidewalks and landscaping, and leasing has begun. Here's the website: https://www.aviaslc.com/

Thanks for the views of the skyline! It will be really nice when you get all of the towers in there at the correct heights. I think Astra should be notably more prominent than it is in your mockup. Here's Orlando's most recent massing for comparison:

This was before the 465 Main project was announced.

I think Astra and Worthington will break ground soon, definitely before the end of the year unless something falls through. Not sure about the timelines of SWT, Sundial, or the Theatre tower but I don't think any of them are too far off either.

Btw, here's a recent picture of downtown that I found on Flickr, highlighting our favorite block:

Understandably surface parking lots are a 4 letter word on a skyscraper forum but I have got to say I enjoy seeing that many trees in the downtown area.

Looking at Enemy4thePeoples mockups (very nice by the way) I'm starting to think the Sundial won't be as offensive as first thought. Sure we all wish it were taller and slimmer but with the 15 story residential building going up next to it, it really doesn't look that bad.

Atlas? How did you photo shop an orchard into the foreground of the skyline? It looks so real.

An "Appeal Comm Decision - Planning" was filed by opponents of the Hines Tower for the Utah Theater Site (144 S. Main).

BTW, Convexity Tower is still described as a "31 Story Residential High Rise."
