Is there a post threshold where a person suddenly becomes credible? If so, I wasn't aware of it.

Anyhoo.......if all 8 of the proposed projects in downtown start going up simultaneously (besides the 3 that are already under construction), I'll be in heaven. There's something about the Astra building that I just love. It's my favorite of the bunch.

A new tallest in Astra is exciting and will add density right in the center of the skyline, but I'm very excited for Worthi... I mean Convexity Tower. The bronze facade looks beautiful and I like to see that the skyline is pushing east a bit.

For sure. It's nice to finally see some buildings on the east side of State (95 State, Liberty Sky, and now Convexity).

Convexity is such a horrible name lol, I can't be the only one right?

Also wow that high rise in Austin is....hideously ugly.

I can't wait for these towers to start so that we have some new projects to talk about. The wait for Astra is killing me...

Same here! Here's a Reddit comment from a week ago about Astra's easment lawsuit situation that I found informative:

The current state of that suit is that there isn't an injunction but could be one if MNV (pawn shop owners) first put up a $250,000 bond. They haven't been willing to do so, so there isn't an injunction.

The last filing from Kensington basically said "you snooze you lose", and that an injunction isn't practical at all at this point since the easement, even if it existed before, doesn't exist anymore. The site is a construction site. The absolute most MNV could get at this point is monetary relief.

My guess (as a non-expert) is that the judge will probably agree with that on August 3rd, and the only question in the lawsuit will be whether MNV is entitled to financial relief.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they waited until that hearing, because there exists a small chance that the judge could order Kensington to repave the easement for the pawn shop. I can't actually imagine the judge doing that but maybe it's worth waiting a couple weeks to see.

Hey. New here. It's been a long time since I've posted on any internet forum so I might be a little rusty.

By way of introductions, here's my 3D model of Salt Lake I started from the 6970 competition a while back. I've been filling it in as I work on projects around town. It's more detailed than your typical Open Street Map masses. It's focused on the Hines Tower but the model extends west to Gateway. No terrain, tho. I just started working on some projects at the U, so I've been considering adding it in. I'm also thinking of moving the model over from SketchUp to Blender, but initial tests show that will be a gigantic pain in the butt, so I'm holding off for now.

And to throw my hat into the opinion part of this:

I'm not sure why anyone would like the Sundial Tower, especially compared to 405 Colorado. 405 Colorado looks like it was designed. It shows a clear design intent of a glass jewel floating over a terracotta pedestal with the proportions for each mass worked out. The Sundial looks like some random tweaks someone thought might be a good idea made onto a maximized buildable envelope and in the end they just said, "wrap it in curtainwall, who cares." And it's clear they only did it because they had to do something in order to go above 100'.

And I'd rather have the Hines Tower than keep the theater. I am a big fan of adaptive reuse, and I'm a proponent of sustainability, but I'm not a hardcore preservationist. I even worked on a proposal to build a tower over the theater, but that was what convinced me it would never work. The theater just woefully underutilizes the site and a residential tower is a good replacement. If some 100' office building were proposed instead, I wouldn't be so supportive.

Welcome! Great job on the rendering! The color-coding is nice. Can we see a few different perspectives of this model? Some from down lower to get a better view of the skyline from different angles? Also, maybe it's just this angle, but Liberty Sky looks bigger than it should be.

Personally, I can't stand the 405 Colorado. It looks like someone built a modern-day addition onto an older building. The styles don't match, and I personally think it looks hideous. I do like The Sundial, but I wish it were taller. I get that it makes up for it in width, but I'd prefer a higher tower, rather than a wider one. But I guess that also depends on the location.

The CCH is going to be an absolutely beautiful addition to the skyline. That curved glass on the front. Wow.

Wow, nice! Great first post, Enemy4thePeople! I love how you've highlighted the new buildings and empty lots.

I agree that Liberty Sky does look too tall and a little too wide and Astra seems a little too short. Also, you're missing the CCH and SWT, and Sundial should be orange. Otherwise, looks great!

Also, I actually kinda agree about the Sundial vs. 405 Colorado debate. Sundial has an odd aspect ratio and I think the design could use more refinement. The sheer height of 405's parking structure is obscene though.

Here's a construction update on 95 State, Astra, Liberty Sky, theRANDI, Moda Luxe, and 255 S State:

I am not sure if this was posted before, if so I missed it. Is the crown of 95 State going to have lighting like the 111 Tower?
Nice photo by the way.

Just wondering if anyone knows the timelines or has info on the Wells Mixed-use Development (corner of 500 E and 1300 S) as well as the 500 Parkview mixed-use next door. I'm sooo excited about these. I really hope they bring more similar projects further east

Enemy4thePeople,

Thanks for the overall.

Astra is shown way too small and the Liberty Sky is shown way too big. Astra is 448' tall and Liberty Sky is 250' tall.

Sure. The Wells Development is across 1300 S from Liberty Park and it seems like it has been under construction for a while (can't remember last time I drove by). Here is a BSL article for both.
