Further, U of S construction will start this summer!

Construction Date Now On Schedule

Although construction hasn't started on the two Academic Health Sciences buildings at the U-of-S, the vice president of academic says they are now right on schedule.
Earlier indications had pegged the construction for earlier this year, but it will now go ahead for the summer.
One of the buildings will house biomedical research capabilities, while the second will have a lecture theatre, library, meeting rooms and a new school of public health.
Michael Atkinson estimates the facilities will be completed between 2011 and 2012.
Right now the buildings will cost an estimated 250 million dollars, with the province providing 100 million of that total.

Much better quality rendering than the one I posted quite some time ago. Too bad they shortened it! Saskatoon must have more than enough buyers to have filled a 17 or 18 storey building. The location is excellent. Is the reduction in size a result of NIMBYism?? Too bad if it is. Project looks good though.

According to Meridian, the height reduction was due to rising contruction costs. It's too bad, I like the scale and proportion of the original. Though I think the design of the shorter tower is better.

I dug up another picture of the Tower 21 sign as promised. Probably forgot all about it, what with the MOB bombshell since dropped. Anyway...

So, Stewie, should we keep these pictures within the confines of SSP, or can one show them around a bit. Thought I'd ask.

I highly doubt that. With the housing market the way it is, they could have filled a 30 story building no problem. I am sure some NIMBY pressure got to them - a compromise for both groups.... I guess the height will keep the overall scale on broadway down to earth. Build the talls downtown. A few more 10 - 15 story buildings on broadway would add a sort of secondary skyline in the city.

Hi all, I'm new here. I came accross this site while looking for info on what's hapenning with the KG. Any new info?

On another note, if anyone has questions about the new Health Sciences complex D and E wings I don't have pics, but I am on the Heath Sci building committee and could probably answer most questions shot my way.

Don't you need one skyline before you can have a second?

Just playing. Good to see Saskatoon has a couple projects in the works as well.
