I don't see the new arena in any of the evraz place pics. So I am thinking that it wont be built on Evraz place grounds.

I think it's in the top left corner of the plan, the northwest corner. It would be just south of the Residence Inn. It also looks like there would be a parkade planned for directly east of the arena.

I think it's important to remember that this is a concept plan and than most of it probably won't come to pass.

For what it's worth, REAL has zero dollars, the City told REAL there is no money available, and the Sask Party told REAL there is no money available.

So this arena has somewhere between a 0 and 1% chance of happening.

That's basically what happened with Mosaic Stadium. We got stadium funding. Saskatoon gets arena funding.

So do not expect any provincial money, at least before 2030.

Their twitter feed says this:

Regina Red Sox
@ReginaRedSox

Exciting announcement coming tomorrow at 11:00 am! Further details released Wed at 8:00 am!

No mention of Dewdney avenue however, other than people speculating it is for Dewdney. Is it a coincidence that there is supposed to also be something about an arena on the same day?

Here's the LP article about it. Can't say I'd be thrilled if it were to get built on the rail yards lot.

The railyards is an awful location for the baseball stadium.

In favour of a centralized baseball stadium, but The Railyards isn't it. Particularly the emphasis for surface parking. No. A poor use of an important piece of land. We can do better than this and shouldn't jump at the first idea that comes along.

Why isn’t this being considered for the Exhibition grounds? Ample space for something like this and would keep the city from creating another pedestrian dead zone

Maybe if the Pedestrian Bridge connection to downtown was built to allow parking downtown at the Cornwall Centre etc. and other places during the games? Otherwise, yeah. No giant parking lot on the rail grounds. Also maybe a partnership regarding this parking lot...

Ugh, this is a bad idea. At least a hockey arena would allow year-round events (though I'd be against that, too). The only things going in that undeveloped prime land are residential and commercial developments (with a focus on amenities like restaurants and grocery).

Well I called it a month ago. And it's still a silly idea that the city should reject unless its temporary.

It’s not really prime if it’s been empty for 10 years. A baseball stadium in that area would be fantastic, especially if the pedestrian bridge still goes ahead.

Initially, I was disappointed to hear that a baseball 'stadium' is proposed for the railyard land. Our city is in need of major developments right in the core downtown, not on the periphery. A lot of people are expecting retail and residential development on the railyard land, but seriously, retail has been upended by online shopping. If the Cornwall Centre, and other downtown retail properties sit empty, do we really need to add more retail? As for residential, I am not sure who would want to live right beside the CP Rail mainline. I live six blocks away and I can hear the rumble and banging of the trains, not to mention the bloody horns. Believe me, what I hear is not inconsiderable. And then there's the very strong diesel exhaust which is prevalent in the cold winter months. No one wants, or needs, to live in this area. There is a reason why after 100+ years, there has been very little residential construction in the Warehouse District. An emphasis on new downtown housing should focus on the Centre Square neighbourhood. At least here you are in-between the downtown and Wascana Park, both of which are an easy walk away.

The baseball stadium will help the bar scene in the Warehouse District, and may perhaps bring a few new bars and/or restaurants to the area.

And hey, if the city booms and grows a decade or two down the line, perhaps the baseball 'stadium' could be demolished to make way for new development. Right now, I do not see any demand for this property, so a 'stadium' is better than an ugly empty lot for another couple of decades (or longer).
