I know, right? That will totally kill the character of the vacant lots and radio tower in that area. I hate all this development. Midtown was so much better in the 90s

I think a 6 floor building with that much retail is something Midtown doesn't get a lot of, and it could set a good precedent. Hopefully this fills out the street level nicely.

That's incredible! Those are the old offices of the Atlanta headquarters branch of Law Engineering, where I toiled away from 1986 through 1997. I can even pick out my old offices on the site plan on the web link. Started as a staff engineer there and left as a Principal Engineer.

I agree the total number of units and amount of retail is impressive. But in general in this town, the quality of highrise development is far, far better than that of lowrise development, most of which I would describe as pretty disappointing.

I'll remain skeptical until I see a site plan and rendering, but in general I'd rather wait a few years and have some nice highrises on the same site, no question.

I wonder if that's not a typo. The site is 2.4 acres. Can you fit that many units wrapped around a sufficiently-sized parking deck in a 6-story building on a 2.4 acre site?

Based on the tax records, the current property owner paid $17.67 million for the site in 2007. It seems crazy to think that the new developer is going to pay at least that same amount to buy a site for only a 300+ unit apartment complex. There has to be more to this proposal that we're missing.

The 131 Ponce Midtown project is 280 units on 2.5 acres and is about 5 stories if I'm not mistaken... Seems like it would probably fit.

Some fairly recent construction photos of the Buckhead Atlanta development. These are not mine, as they were originally posted on the project's Facebook page.

Thanks, nature's calling!

Looks pretty good to me. They also plan on planting huge, mature trees throughout the complex.

And this is obviously not including what is shown - several will need large cranes.

It would be great if they could do something about that skanky looking Promove at the corner of Pharr Road.

I'm sure this has been discussed many times, but is the streetcar opened and actually being used?

Not yet-- Late Summer or Fall-- Tracks and Overhead infrastructure are complete but drivers are training, etc.--

An exercise in 'Pottery Barn' architecture to be sure-- but I suppose its alright, certainly better than the original design--

Beltline development

My wife and i took the beltline 3 hour bus tour today. Highly re commented. Excellent narrative from the guide and a veery impressive look at the current development and the future of the area on the Beltline. A must for those interested in Atlanta development/

or the other properties on the other side, not sure a gun shop would come in handy unless you plan on robbing one of the new places in BA

I believe that block is being razed soon. I'm positive some of its tenants are being vacated. I'm not sure about Chuck's but they're all connected so I assume they'll be moving too.

I went cruising around the city recently. I really admired the flower beds in the new medians on Peachtree in Buckhead. Whoever selected those plants that spill over the side and on to the street deserves a raise. That is an extremely pretty effect. There is a pair of those types of plants at the end of each planter, it's very well done.

Not extremely pretty, the power cable for the streetar. Jesus what an eyesore!

I also drove around the O4W park area. That area gives me a weird vibe like some half dog half scorpion might jump out of a gutter somewhere. I heard that the Home Depot/Whole Foods shopping center just north of the PCM project got built on top of a magical spring. Does anyone have any information on that? I'm wondering what the course of that spring was and particularly if it went through the area that was excavated to make the deep water reservoir in the O4W park.
