Yeah, I worked at Ravinia in the late 90's and it was basically the mall, the King & Queen buildings and a bunch of restaurants a half mile from one another. The area around the MARTA station is gonna look like Crystal City in a few years

Lighting

I've noticed a lot of the buildings in the city have started to play around with their lighting schemes. Lately, blue seems to be a popular choice. Sometimes you'll see the two crowns of 191 with blue at the top. Aqua recently added a blue color scheme, Picasso comes to mind when I look at it. And Skyhouse 6th has a blue colored crown. But I'm sitting at the pool at 1010 and noticed the BOA building wasn't lit. Upon watching it closer I noticed it was changing to an array of different colors. Like they're testing it or something, but only on a fourth of the crown and very faint. I hope developers continue to play around with the lighting schemes of their buildings. I think it makes the city look sexy and vibrant.

Same here, but early 90s...lunch was basically Houston's or the food court at Perimeter.

I worked out there from 2004 - 2006 in the Sterling Point complex across Ashford-Dunwoody from the California Pizza Kitchen. It was the former HBOC HQ's, before they merged with McKesson.

In two short years, I saw countless office buildings from 15 to 40 years old get torn down and replaced by dense residential, especially on the East side of AD.

Now when I go out there, I am blown away with the changes - and it seems to be going to a much different level. The proposal's and announced projects (most rezoned and entitled prior to the meltdown) seem to be finally happening, or about to.

they are using LED arrays, which can deliver different colours based on combinations of red, blue, and green (much like a TV). unfortunately the 'white' they produce certainly looks 'off'.

if what you're saying about the BoA tower is true, that will be a pretty big change. it has had a prominent sodium-vapour lit crown since it was built.

Yeah, that's why I was so shock to see them experimenting with different colors last night. I also don't like that Hines changed the color scheme of 1180. It used to be a very bright aqua blue. Now it's a barely lit white color scheme, that's a tenth the brightness of what it use to be. They should really change it back.

Invest Atlanta, the city’s economic development authority, has approved $7.5 million in tax exempt bonds to finance 80-units of independent living housing-for-seniors in the Old Fourth Ward. Led by Wingate Capital Partners, the housing project will be jointly developed with Columbia Residential on what is currently vacant land located at the southeast corner of Boulevard and Angier Avenue.

That new Corey sign is finished and it's monumentally... sad. Corey's self-aggrandizement takes the Emperors Wearing no Clothes to a new low. Was he serious?

A "bike and brew community" with easy access to shopping, restaurants, Sweetwater beer and eventually the Beltline?! Quadruple yes, y'all. Developer EpiCity has announced plans for Armour Junction, a mixed-use project near Interstate 85 and the Sweetwater Design District.

Developer getting buy-in on Kirkwood project

Quote:
A developer is reaching out to Kirkwood residents before asking the city of Atlanta to rezone property to allow construction of multifamily housing.

Euramex Management purchased 3.3 acres behind Kirkwood Station in November and wants to buy adjacent properties at 1910 Bixby Street. The goal is to turn both into a single multifamily development in Kirkwood’s business district.

Euramex would need the city of Atlanta to rezone the property on Bixby for multifamily, even though it currently has apartments. Those apartments were built before the current zoning code went into effect.

According to concept drawings the company has provided to residents, there would be 290 units total. The average size would be 875 square feet.
Concept Drawings:

Cyan in Buckhead

I didn't have time to grab a shot of Skyhouse, but it appeared to be well more than a dozen floors up.

Beer, Biking District is Brewing near Sweetwater Brewery

Curbed Atlanta is reporting that Developer EpiCity, developers of Lumberyard Office Lofts, has announced plans for Armour Junction, a mixed-use project near Interstate 85 and the Sweetwater Design District. The five-building renovation project will be located at Plasters Avenue and Mayson Street, " right atop a little knoll where Buckhead bumps into Midtown; the Beltline, MARTA and the Norfolk Southern intertwine; and GA 400, I-85, I-75, Piedmont Road and Monroe Drive all co-mingle". "This park and pedal atmosphere will include flex commercial space, restaurants and shops including a bike shop, coffee shop and brewery, as well as vertical residential units and an event space with skyline views, rooftop gardens and terraces." The project will be directly on the Beltline (once the trail makes it up that far) and a short trek to the Sweetwater brewery. "

Right now it's a parking lot and a Checkers. I think this is great.

I'm impressed by how many units they are proposing for a 6 story building.
