agree. have seen proposals come and go for these lots for a long time. it's a very prominent location, but with dire infrastructure need, so even more than with most sites you have a tug of war with pressure to integrate well with the surroundings (that is, hold out for as good an 'aesthetic' deal as you can get), but also pressure to just get any deal done (to get the needed repairs). I feel the battle rage even in my own head when I think about it. and I feel for the Port, who, even if they sympathize, will probably cringe every time a neighborhood organization speaks up. the neighbors could easily demand this one into oblivion again. I really, really hope a balance can be found.
didn't 'we' pass a law a while back that says the voters have to approve waterfront development, or is that just over a certain height, I've already lost track?
as to the proposal itself, the piers section looks fine, but the city-side building(s) don't come across as attractive in the rendering. it also seems to be it would be better if the northern section were the taller of the two, so as not to be so jarring with the much shorter buildings to the south.
