That too. Since politicians hand out most of the money, they often impose politically-driven conditions to make said projects happen (ex: a subsidy will only be given to X transit project if it reaches X city)

Seems that the CUPE union at the STM accepted yesterday a new collective agreement which includes performance-based pay increases. The national CUPE is just bad mouthing the REM for fictional reasons though.

Osmo, that has never been the case. Mount Dennis has been below ground since Metrolinx updated the Transit City EA in 2013, and was never elevated. The LRT is elevated for a short stretch over Black Creek Drive, then dips down around the Kodak building to an underground station under the rail corridor.. The city is currently advancing the EA for the westward extension as we speak, evaluating if any intersections need to be grade separated. www.eglintonwestlrt.ca

When the Macdonald bridge was being worked on the city decided to spent $550,000 extra to temporarily increase ferry frequencies. It turns out that this move was roughly revenue neutral. People made 440,000 more trips on the ferry in 2016 than in 2014 and fare revenues went up by $338,000 (just money in the fareboxes, not counting additional monthly passes).

I wonder how many routes like this exist out there, where there is latent demand for better service that isn't provided because of a false notion that cutting service levels will save significant amounts of money.

QC city's mayor will present Friday a LRT project with a tunnel in Old QC. It is estimated at more than 3G$. Funding for the detailled engineering is expected to be announced in the provincial budget. Construction is supposed to be completed in 5 years (lol).

The other 2 leaders have yet to show they are any better.

We no longer vote for the best. We vote for the least worst. I am hopeful the other leaders step up to the plate and give us a reason to vote for them

I can't see them being any worse as a national, political figurehead than Trudeau. Of course, I'm not going to base which party platform to vote for on their leader. Harper was an equally poor figurehead for entirely different reasons too.

Apparently Toronto's getting $4 billion in the $10 billion given to Ontario for transportation projects.

From what I heard, this money, along with being used for general repairs of the TTC and other things, will be used for the Scarborough Subway Extension.....

I'm rather frustrated by the current one station iteration of that proposed line.....

I'm guessing Metrolinx has more funding now to build out some of those proposed LRT projects.
