Yikes. That's the silliest thing I have ever heard. First off, I wasn't speaking to architecture so you turned my words into something they were not.

This building at least connects to the street and has the ability to engage pedestrians. In the long term the building has the ability to convert the main floor office into retail.

You build that long brick facade and it will be there for 50 years and I guarantee not one of those people pictured walking will be there.

I would hope that you would be objective enough to see that this blank wall will do nothing for Saskatoon. Don't be happy with mediocracy and start labelling blank facades as "part of the architecture."

I also don't think the Saskatoon one is 'horrible', but sure would have liked to have seen some street/pedestrian considerations.
I should have made my post a bit more clear I guess, I like the idea of engaging the public on street level but I don't think the aesthetic of the Regina development is very well suited to a downtown environment. A cities best architecture should be showcased here since it is the heart of the city.

$13.8 million

That can't be all the money given to Saskatchewan for infrastructure/construction?

Regarding the pedestrian bridge, we already have a similar one under the Circle Drive Bridge. It's pretty cool, but the difference is, it's more open air. The Circle Drive South pedestrian bridge does appear to have a 'tunnel of doom' effect going on from the renderings. Hopefully that's not the case while you're on it.

Wow

Good stuff!!! That bride you posted is really neat... I like that. Unique too, but the one from the designs looked more like it was going under the expressway. I hope youre right, I would love to walk acorss that bridge, but not if it feels like the expressway might fall on me lol

My ideal vision for this would be to make this a dual lane drive with a tree lined blvd and tree lined sidewalks, try to make it more pedestrian friendly. Then construct a tunnel underneath for semis and through traffic.
Ahh interesting. At least the extension is being made so. That is a brilliant idea too, btw.

I wonder though, what about going around? Saskatoon will be experiencing a huge boom these next few decades with houses being build and the area of the city expanded. I hear lots of Albertans who are really Saskatchewanians will be moving back, and the economy doesn't look like it will stop any time soon in Saskatchewan. So why not start planning for future growth?

Again, I am not familiar with Saskatoon - perhaps growth is not in this area as much as others

The department head of my architecture school is working with some people from Waterloo and a few architects who are the SK reps for the RAIC on this, it will take a long time to make a rigorous enough program that can attain accreditation as soon as possible. No point in opening a school that is not accredited, it's a useless degree then.

Well I hope they can get it up and running as soon as they possibly can, as I plan on getting at least my bachelor's degree. I will enter year 3 as a graduate from SIAST architectural technology program in Moose Jaw (at least that is what our program head has heard) So if you wanna get into this school and don't want to wait I would suggest applying! It is really worth it!

When talking to a couple of Saskatoon architects recently, I was very surprised to hear that the school was planned to be open for fall 2012. Certainly a lot earlier than I would have expected, but those I was speaking with were credible, so who knows?
