The glock is far too minor. I'd put the Capital Pointe fiasco ahead of it for sure. Or all the work to put into Pat's Patio, only to flip flop back to a traffic street.

It was always intended to have vehicle traffic. This was a compromise after people complained about cars.

I like the glockenspiel . I would also like to see the Davin Fountain back downtown somewhere. I always thought the weird raised area of FW Hill Mall would be a good place, though I don’t know what the logistics would be.

Firstly the cost is absolutely ridiculous. Secondly, if you work in the area, it was so loud it interrupted meetings and conference calls. I would ask if you would like one on your street.

I wouldn't say that the bells were that loud. I also work directly across from the glock and on a floor that is directly in line with the bells. I've never had a client (on the phone) say "what the hell is that?" But yes, I agree that it should have been elsewhere in the park, perhaps across from the library. And it should have a control box where they can turn off the bells for special events such as the folk festival or entertainment in the park or on the plaza. If they don't, then this is just another in a long list of dumb mistakes our City makes.

In that same league are those cracks on Victoria Avenue between Cornwall and Rose, and the fact that they spent the money putting sidewalks on *BOTH* - yes, BOTH! - sides of the streets there. What a waste!

He might be referring to the puzzling decision to use asphalt where the meters are in front of Sask Power instead of an actual sidewalk. If you haven't seen it, the asphalt mucks up an otherwise good-looking and long overdue rehab of that section of Vic.

SaskPower is tearing up their plaza next year to redo the waterproof membrane. To do this they will have to tear up the City sidewalk as their underground parkade comes right to the property line. They will then replace the sidewalk / trees etc when they are done. there was no point in putting in a concrete walk for one year then having them tear it out.

I was thinking it might be a temporary measure. I'm glad to see that there is a good reason for it! At least they didn't just throw some crusher dust in there for a year, which isn't outside the realm of possibility in this city.

FTR: I'm supportive of the Plaza, and the City taking a risk in trying it. We often complain that the City doesn't take planning seriously, nor the designed environment, and that they cave too easily to cars & the business lobby. I think the original plan was ambitious, and not too concerned about car-centric lobby. It seemed to have a vision of a vibrant, walkable downtown.

The fact that the City took so much abuse (much of it deserved - Pat & other champions needed to be open to good-faith feedback, even if critical), has had ripples throughout both City Admin, and Council. I'd say they've recoiled back to a risk-adverse position based in part on this experience.

Absolutely. CP demonstrated a complete & utter lack of... well, just about everything. City Council failed in their fiduciary responsibility. City Admin failed in their most basic functions. The Province failed (not sure they knew they failed - they should have pro-actively reached out to the City to offer supports, including legislative changes, to address this issue (and similar in the future)).

I'm amazed Merchant doesn't have a class action against the City & Council, on behalf of the people who placed deposits on this gong show.

About the only people who succeeded were those involved in the various shell companies behind the scam.

Maybe if the McD's at Evraz gets torpedoed, they'll shift their focus to Albert & Vic. Talk about a welcoming entrance to downtown Regina.
