Wow! That is in addition to their current ~3,500 jobs they already have here? This would put them up there with IBM, Freescale and AMD in the 6-7k Austin employee area.

How many does Samsung have now that the new plant went online last November?

Future of SXSW with new convention center hotels

Can't wait to see what SXSW will look like in the future once the two planned convention center hotels come on-line. They can't be built fast enough....

I agree but we really need many more hotel rooms than the two proposed large ones so I am glad that several smaller ones are being built as well.

There are a lot of rooms under construction or scheduled to start construction by summer. But even with those online, I think there will still be a shortage for big events.

Both the 1000 room JW Marriott and the 1000 room Grand Hotel at Waller Creek are scheduled to break ground in June and July.

Only one has their financing

Manchester is still seeking financing. It may be a challenge to get both +$300 million projects financed.

Where did you get this information? No offense, but this seems very speculative.

Manchester stated from the very get-go when the project was first announced that they had all the financing already.

I thought that that was the case. That's for the confirm, but do we have any links?

Pretty much any story in this thread. Even the first one mentions they have financing. Grand Hotel at Waller Creek | 700 FT Spire / 581 FT Roof | 47 Floors | 1,035 rooms]

Here was the first story on the Grand.

He said it was his impression that the second developer was "pretty far ahead in the planning" and that financing has been lined up as well.

You are quoting City Council Member Bill Spelman who said it was "his impression.... that financing has been lined up."

Both developers have said they have equity for their respective projects, but neither has announced financing. In today's difficult climate for debt financing, those would be big announcements. Many announced projects in Austin are on hold for a lack of financing.

From what I have heard, both hotel projects are a go for construction start this summer. I can't see how any company cannot secure financing when the demand is so great here. Demand dictates market so it would be outragious to just say one or both may not be built. Unless you have some sort of proof I believe we will so both hotels start construction this summer.

CNBC is reporting today that another 25 high rise condos are planning on starting construction this year in Miami as demand is increasing. Miami was ground zero for the housing bust, so if they are turning around it bodes well for residential/hotel construction for the rest of the U.S.

Here is a couple I took from the ACC on Tuesday. While looking at them imagine tons and tons of loud deafening music coming from a collection of stages around ACC. =)

Well, I'm sure the banks are happy the "cheerleaders" are excited.
