Looks like the temperature will barely rise above 0 today ending our streak of 16 days of below freezing temperatures.

^19 consecutive days without a max above 0 for us, and we're going to have our 3rd sub -20 low so far this winter on Sunday morning.

I wasn't around in the 1970s when there were some truly brutal winters in southern Ontario, but this one takes the cake for me. We've had it all: snowstorms in early November, record snowfall on a single day, not record colds, but -20 on 3 consecutive weekends.

Let's flip this around: if this were summer, that would be like having +30 in early May, a record torrential downpour on a single day, not record highs, but +35 on 3 consecutive weekends in late July/early August.

It would be interesting to see stats comparing this year to a "normal" pre-1960 Toronto winter.

^ Nice wintery pics SHH.

It was a nice day for a walk in East Vancouver, mainly cloudy and around 12°C.

No idea how the pothole situation was in the 70's or 80's but I can guarantee it's way worse nowadays. All the major road, highways were much newer therefore in much better shape. People in the ROC really have no idea... when I say we have the worst roads in the developed world, I am not kidding. Freezes and thaws would not have such effect if the road was well build and well maintained to begin with.

-10C with a wind chill of -16 and mainly cloudy. Some sun earlier on. We are back into considerably below normal temperatures. WTF!

Low of -16C (wind chill of -24) this morning.

The warmspot was Fincastle and Enchant, AB at 20.2C. 3rd consecutive where some weather station in Alberta reaches 20C. NUTS!

Warmest low was Estevan Point, BC at 9.2C

Absolutely frigid today. Windchill to -30. Probably the winteriest winter I've ever experienced. That said, this weekend looks to be the grand finale. Things are predicted to normalize next week.

Photos from 3 locations today.

Here's a lake that freezes, Rice Lake. Desolate as could be.

Utterly Baltic in Ottawa today. First time this year I had to cut my morning walk short.

Brag time from the Calgary crowd. Another t-shirt type day in Calgary (15C and sunny). Lots of people out in t-shirts again.

It's been a nice run of weather for over a month now, with 31 of the last 35 days having daily highs above freezing. 12 of those days going over double digits, and 5 being 15C or higher. Temps as warm as 17C and 18C. Patios have been open a lot of the days recently.
January's average daily high was 3C, even after a very cold start, but February so far the coldest daytime high has been 9C and the average daytime high is 13.1C Even higher than Van or Vic. Of course that won't last, but it's been fun.

From today

Going down to -34 C in Timmins with not much wind but the windchill value is predicted to be -40. I think this will be our second coldest night so far as we had a -36 back in January. The normal low for this date is -24 C.

-15C with a wind chill of -26. Clearing this afternoon. More brutal cold. I cannot believe this.

Snowed overnight with a temperature of -9C (wind chill -15)

The warmspot was Brooks, AB at 17.7C. A bit of a cooler day in Alberta but still incredible.

Warmest low was Vancouver (Harbour), BC at 8.9C

I don't think the morning was too bad but when I went out in the afternoon I got caught in some sideways rain.

Saturday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 10 C, the low was 8 C.

Another cold one in Toronto, but there’s an end in sight. Tomorrow should be the last of the cold cold days and we’ll be back to more normal weather.
