The liquor license they applied for is World of Beer, a chain out of Florida http://wobusa.com

Oo yes I'd heard about that. Thank you. I hope they are planning on some outdoor space along the street there. Maybe that could be why the facade is gone?

Here's what one in Arlington looks like:

Our sidewalk isn't quite big enough for that setup.

While I'm certainly happy to get that stretch of Peachtree filled up with some kind of retail/restaurant ... I really wish we could get some more creative concepts going in. "World of Beer" sounds and looks like a Disney World pit stop for parents who just dropped their kids off next door at the MickeyMouse Club. It just seems so sterile and manufactured. Especially with Gordon Biersch (another corporate boredom inducing chain) right across the street.

the most original naming for a restaurant, it is not.. but i love having a massive selection of unusual and great beers on tap and that's what this place is all about. Gordon Biersch i think mostly pours their own beers and honestly they arent that great. this World of Beer place is more in line with the likes of a Taco Mac as far as concept, but with a more limited food menu and much more focus on the booze. I dont think there is an issue with it being across from Gordon Biersch. I'd rather go here than Gordon Biersch and this will attract people who are craft beer fanatics and general beer fans - craft beer is hugely popular in atlanta right now and growing. those people probably all agree with me that Gordon Biersch kinda sucks lol

Wow the next couple seasons are going to be a shit show as far as parking access/getting to games, for people who dont take marta of course. have they addressed how they are going to make up for that loss in surface lot area in the next few seasons? should be interesting. construction is really going to ramp up quick and this whole area is going to look vastly different by the end of summer.

kinda glad i gave up my season tickets the season before last before that terrible season last year.. one or two games in person per season is plenty

The way I see it, anything is better than nothing, and you get concepts like this, with deep pockets, that don't necessarily need to be an instant success and can build traffic over time. That traffic helps the other places around which can lead to more unique concepts taking the risk of setting up shop.

Good point. Lets imagine they called it something totally nonsensical instead. Would a place with a huge beer selection and half-decent food then be palatable? I mean, just take two random words and put them together...how about 'Taco Mac'?

I just went to a World of Beer down in St. Petersburg, Fl (which btw, has a beautiful and active downtown—I was really surprised). It's kind of an awesome place, actually.

Midtown really seems to lack mom and pop restaurants especially compared to Downtown and the inner neighborhoods. I find mom and pop places to have some of the best food.

Maybe if you only consider what's directly on Peachtree. There are plenty of single location gems in Midtown: Mary Macs, Cafe Mezo, Cypress St., Mulan, Takorea, Papi's, Campagnolo, Babs, Pasta Da Pulcinella, etc.

975 Piedmont should be putting up their second building soon. I expected it would have been up by now.. so maybe it will take longer, but it looks close.

Also there's a video of the development on their website's main page that I hadn't seen before.

I agree BigA. Actual construction has really picked up. Especially wonderful is that skyscraper construction has really picked up.

I'll be happy when 1138 P'tree and 811 P'tree start construction. What's the status on Amli Arts Center, Medical Office Tower and Yoo on the Park?

I think he means a rendering that shows the entire building to scale in relation to its surroundings. I don't know why they don't just use the proposed Mandarin building as the final design for this location. It was so beautiful
