I think the main reason people don't ride Amtrak is that it takes twice as long to get anywhere than driving or flying. 5.5 hours to Charlotte is a little ridiculous when you can drive it in 3. The service HAS to be at least faster/more convenient than driving.

98 14th won't start until at least 2015? That's not promising. That one goes back into the "believe it when I see it" pile, lol.

Slow down cowboys! 98 14th Street's developer has very deep pockets. You should only get worried if they don't complete acquisition on the land which is planned this month. If that happens - GAME ON!

About the Developer

Headquartered in New York City, Ashkenazy Acquisition Corporation is a private real estate investment firm focusing on retail and office assets. Ashkenazy Acquisition has acquired over 13 million square feet of retail, office and residential properties, located throughout the United States and Canada. With a portfolio containing more than 100 buildings valued at approximately $5 billion, Ashkenazy Acquisition has a superior performance history in purchasing and managing premier assets.

Ashkenazy Acquisition is made of an experienced team of in-house, seasoned professionals, including acquisitions, finance, construction, leasing, development and marketing. The integrated team of real estate professionals offers exceptional expertise at all levels of the transaction and subsequent management.

I agree with the I'll believe it when I see it approach. I am still skeptical on this starting, but the 2015 date is not the issue. That's actually decently soon as far as getting design, permitting, financing, land acquisition, etc. done. Keep in mind that Selig with a great track record doesn't want to start 60 11th street til the fall, not all that far from 2015. I'm as skeptical as any other on projects, but the 2015 start date is a non issue.

You could say the same for Marta. Some trains don't need to stop at all stations, for example going to/from the airport.

811 Peachtree

I don't contribute on here regularly. So, I don't know if this rendering of 811 Peachtree has already been posted. I'll remove the post if it has. Pretty cool stuff. Much better than the stuff that Preston Partnership puts out.

I'm not concerned about the 2015 start date for 98 14th Street considering that we are already in the 2Q of 2014. The parcel has yet to close so it's difficult to peg a definitive start date. For all we know, the developers could close and give a 3Q 2015 start date. That would be aggressive considering the scope of this project. Patience is a virtue.

A few tidbits from the Midown Alliance:
  • Phase 2 of the 10th street cycle track will be constructed in mid-2014.
  • Additional midtown branded bikeracks will be installed in late 2014 (30 have been installed already).
  • Work has started on burying the overhead power lines along 10th street from Peachtree to Juniper. Work will begin soon on burying lines at the intersections of Peachtree and 8th and Peachtree and 16th.
  • A 4-month rebuild of Pershing Point Park is underway. Work includes restoration of the historic World War I monument, landscape and hardscape beautification, and better lighting.
  • 50 new street trees will be planted throughout the Midtown Improvement District in Spring 2014.

Wow. This will certainly be a skyline changer then.

In other news. I took some pictures over the past week.

4/2/14

The Aloft Hotel is wrapping up downtown. Sorry I didn't grab one of the top.

The Center for Civil and Human Rights facade is coming along swimmingly.

4/5/14

This is behind the Old Fourth Ward Skatepark on Willoughby Way. Idk what this is for.

This is up at Druid Hills Baptist Church for their proposed redevelopment.

4/7/14

Viewpoints reno is coming along nicely. I really like the new streetscaping as well. The parking, eh, but it's at least decent looking pavers and will add more retail, etc.

^ Does anyone know what's going on in those spaces? I assume this is just part the facade reno, but they left the windows in on other parts so far. I guess they could be taking others out later, but I don't know the details.

Here's the renders of the proposed.

Dale was pretty close, but just over 385' high from the Peachtree frontage.

Progress on the Restoration Hardware in buckhead

Feels like an eternity since the ESPNzone was there. Is it just me or is this project going pretty slowly?

Centergy north will probably be topped out before RH gets drywall ...

It does look like it's going a bit slowly. That's going to be one big Restoration Hardware.

I was in that area last night and they're really going gang-busters on Buckhead Atlanta. It was pretty dark, but looks pretty nice so far.

I suspect the restoration hardware is taking just the time needed to open synonymously with Buckhead.
