The podium for Bing Thom's wasn't "punched" windows - it was a window or curtain wall with fritted glass defining the pattern of "windows". It would have looked like a flat glass window/curtain wall, not like Trump's stone and glass facade.
The present project does work much better (provides much more variation in materials and setbacks) at the podium level since it moved the parking underground.
