YEG - Edmonton Int Airport - Page 50

So I just came back from Syracuse via Chicago, and Im not sure if CRJ-700s are the standard on the YEG-ORD route, but that plane was full there and back, and has been full everytime ive flown it. Im not sure about airline economics either, but if we are breaking records every year, using regional jets on (most) of the transborder flights ive been on, why doesnt United (or any other carrier for that matter) use larger planes on these routes? Are they that short of planes? or just not too interested in shifting the status quo?

Nov. and Dec. will definitely be higher then Oct. therefore, past 6 million.

I dont understand what this pub night airport get together is all about. Sounds like it will be interesting, but what is in it for EAA and why would they do it???

Cold, I get what you're saying too, but theres obviously demand. I dont care about getting FRA as much as I would like seeing LOT re-enter the market. I think EAA needs to go after niche markets that Edmonton would very likely do well on, 75-90% capacity, say 3 times weekly.

An interesting idea. Perhaps a summer season with 3 weekly flights to WAW might work but WAW is not a great hub airport. The only good connections LOT has are to Athens, Bucharest, Helsinki, Larnaca, Kaliningrad, Kiev, Lviv, Minsk, Moscow, Odessa, Riga, Sofia, Tallinn, Tel Aviv, Vienna, and Vilnius plus the Polish cities of course. There are no flights to the middle east, India or Pakistan. The Polish and Ukranian market could fill a 762 1 or 2 times a week.

I'm going to try to make the shindig next week but a couple of questions i would pose to he bigwigs regarding LOT are:
Have there been any substantial discussions with LOT?

If so, is it scheduled service? It's more risky trying to make connections on charter flights and usually more costly.

Does anyone know how the Star Alliance works in terms of route management? Everyone says that AC and LH split the profits on flights between Canada and Germany. Do AC and LO do the same on the YYZ-WAW route? I could see AC and LH objecting to an LO flight to YEG.

It's interesting that Air France does not fly to Vancouver. Perhaps a YVR-YEG-CDG route might be within grasp. Unless of course Air France looks to KLM to take care of Western Canada. Another possibility that no one looks at is SAS. SAS has a pretty decent network and although SK is no LH, it is still a good airline and the Copenhagen hub is not bad at all. I don't know how well their CPH-SEA flights are doing and how well they will do with LH moving into the Seattle market. How about YVR-YEG-CPH. What about a YEG-SVO route on Aeroflot? What would be the flight time using the Polar route (if this is possible). Just throwing some ideas out there. I agree with ExcaliburKid, though, maybe it's time to look at some other airlines besides AC, LH, KL and BA.

When did AC go daily to Heathrow, May? And its still running very good pax #s. Since AC has clearly chosen its hubs, maybe it would be wise to look outside of the Star Alliance? What ever happened to the open skies agreement?
I cant make it out to 1905 for the meet and greet, however I truly hope there is an in-depth discussion towards expanding existing routes, future routes, and detailed terminal expansion plans. This new lady in charge better have a clear agenda.

Let's not forget that YEG has recently usurped the 5-million PAX figures within the past 12-months. This puts us on a different level that SHOULD NOT and CANNOT be compared to YYC. When YYC was at +5-million PAX they had similar types of air service with perhaps a few more flights here and there. Now that they are in the 11-million PAX, they are receiving a different type of attention.

YEG will start to be recognized now that it is in the 6-million PAX range and has established the critical mass to start attracting new carriers, routes and equipment upgrades. This doesn't happen overnight. However, in YEG's case, the PAX numbers practically doubled overnight. Much to the surprise to alot of people.

^Thats exactly my point. We dont need to be like YYC, and Im not saying we will be over night. What would be good though, is for a non-Canadian carrier to come in and service a route that would very likely be profitable. I think that would open more eyes than another AC international flight would, anyway.

I agree, however, how does a carrier determine when or when not to provide service? I think many will be surprised at to what type of attention YEG gets in 08.

I remember a quote similiar to this last year predicting an unbelievable 2007 for YEG.
