Looks like it is posted at 50km/hr.
If I remember it had a 60km/hr speed before construction.

Good call with Streetview. I backed up the dates to the oldest (c. 2012) and the posted limit (white sign) was 80 km/h, with the first curve (yellow sign) listed as 40 km/h; there might have been other turns posted lower.

As an aside, does anyone know of any archived photos of the other upgraded sections that would show the original bridges?

I posted this in another thread but thought it would be good to post here as well.

The Gardiner Expressway heading towards downtown Toronto, 2003 vs 2022 side by side.
Check out how many buildings have gone up just in the last 19 years! The Gardiner and the Don Valley Parkway are the busiest municipal freeways in Canada and probably North America as far as I know.

What really strikes me is how much more predominant the CN Tower was on the skyline 20 years ago, it really stood out. Now, at least coming from the east, it’s just another building and it’s obscured part of the time.

You’d never see this with the Eiffel Tower.

I thought the same as you. When I was younger I remember driving into Toronto that way in the late 1990s and early 2000s. and the CN Tower really stood out on its own. Even the SkyDome (Rogers Centre) could be seen from much further away. It's just incredible how many condos have gone up and how so many more people are living closer to the lake.

Ontario Highway 11 in that area really looks like a 400-series highway in many segments, but because it isn't there is a lot of typical Northern Ontario advertising signage close to the road. You don't see that on 400-series highways where I assume it is forbidden if too close to the highway. You do have some advertising but it's further away from the road.

The advertising standards for highways in northern Ontario differ from those in southern Ontario. In the north, advertising is permitted using the standard size plywood signs at fixed intervals. Such ads aren't permitted at all in the south. Any billboards in southern Ontario either predate the restrictions that disallow billboards or are set back far enough that they are outside of the MTOs jurisdictions.

Hwy 11 is both much busier and more developed than the 69 corridor. Highway 11 is the original route to the north from the south.

Hwy 69 wasn't until the 1950s and even today there is little in the way of settlement between Parry Sound and Sudbury.

I’ve noticed that, even beyond Gravenhurst on the 11, there’s a sizeable town ~every 15 km, until North Bay.
As for 400/69, well… there’s pretty much nothing north of Port Severn until MacTier (~35 km later), and even then MacTier’s technically out of the way.

Mostly political. It helps when the Premier was at one time elected from a North Bay riding.
