I was at the Community Development Atlanta City Council meeting two months ago when they presented the future phases for the museum. (They plan on building a new phase every 3 - 5 years). They want to be open by Memorial Day weekend.

There's construction on the site of the proposed/approved Centergy North 25-story apartment tower (848 Spring St NW) but it's just on the western edge of the site, alongside the existing Tech Square parking deck. It's possible they're prepping the area where the new tower will connect to the deck.

Whats even the point of having balconies in that scenario. So they can sit outside and enjoy their view to the building 20' away?

not hating, just seems silly

Balconies are nice to have, regardless of the view. They allow you to step outside and see what the weather is like before going out. And on a nice day, some people like to open the doors and let in the fresh air.

Looks like Centergy North is a sure thing then... now we just need something other than student housing to start

The point of a balcony isn't the view; that's what windows are for. It lets you go outside without having to go downstairs or be in a public space. Not having one would be a deal killer for me. Anyway, remember this building will be a lot taller than the one across the street, and the lower floors will still have long-distance views to the east and west.

Noticed this in the Casstleberry Hill Neighborhood Association March meeting minutes:
Gallman Development Group entered into agreement with Joel Roth to develop Fulton Supply Company and the empty lot between Erikson Clock and Fulton Supply. 72 true loft apartments. Timeline for the project currently unknown with zoning, will be starting the process in May.

NCR eyes Midtown for HQ campus

The Atlanta Business Chronicle is reporting that Duluth-based financial technology giant NCR Corp. is eying Midtown as a site for its new headquarters. The move would not only bring hundreds of jobs from Gwinnett, it is also expected to create 1,200 new jobs, according to a source.

NCR, which invested the cash register, is pivoting from a hardware maker to a software developer. The Fortune 500 ATM and kiosk maker has several operations scattered around Gwinnett, and is said to be looking to consolidate in a campus-type development. NCR has looked at sites in the North Fulton area.NCR is drawn to Midtown to be close to metro Atlanta's technology epicenter. The submarket is also home to Georgia Tech, a top center for engineering talent.

NCR’s Midtown campus could include a 10 story office tower and smaller R&D buildings, similar in scope to The Coca-Cola Co.’s campus.NCR wants a location with good visibility from the heavily trafficked Interstate 75-85 connector. The company is said to have look at land on either side of the Interstate, the source said.

Perhaps i'm overly paranoid of bad development but the word "campus" always makes me nervous

How the hell are they going to pack 1,200+ employees into a 10 story building?

There's not a lot of large Midtown lots along the connector left. There's the front lots at Atlantic station, lots on either side at 14th, and what was supposed to be later phases of Centergy, which would be ideal for proximity to Tech.

I worry about the campus idea too, but if it's at Centergy, at least there are residential towers going up to bookend it. Between Spring and Williams on 14th is kinda a dead zone anyway, as well as the other side of the connector... and anything at Atlantic station, which I doubt would happen anyway, I wouldn't really care about.

I guess they could go just north of the Varsity or a little east of that, but that area is really ideal for office development quite yet.

If they just care about proximity to Tech and not connector visibility it's anyone's guess as where they could go.

i'm kind of blown away that ncr wants to move from the burbs to midtown. that really speaks volumes about the desirability of being in the city center. so much good news around here lately...

Potential NCR midtown project:new deets

The ABC has updated their original story to include:

1. NCR (NYSE: NCR) is said to be seeking 250,000 square feet-to-275,000 square feet, and could build a 10-story office tower in addition to smaller buildings for R&D labs.
2. The company is said to have looked at land on either side of the interstate, including near Technology Square and Northyards Business Park, (i)n particular, NCR has eyed undeveloped land next door to the Centergy Building, owned by The Brookdale Group.

3. Georgia Tech declined to comment on NCR's interest, but hinted at the deal with a statement: "Georgia Tech remains actively engaged with state and local partners to attract businesses to Georgia. It would be inappropriate to comment on a specific project ."

The streetcar stops started going up today.

Don't kill me for this, but I'm posting a play by play of the one on Luckie Street outside my office.

Still needs a roof and a few other things, but coming right along.

Also I know this has been talked about, but in case anyone needed proof I snapped this walking from Publix.

Pics taken by me today.
