Still, there are some places that manage to resist the commercialization and keep the curb cuts at bay - I’m thinking about Hwy 7 bypassing Lindsay, Hwy 3 bypassing Tilsonburg, the St Thomas expressway, etc.
From what I can see, a 4-laned or freeway Hwy 7 to Perth would be on a new alignment on the East side of Mississippi Lake. It would actually be a shorter route and would come close enough to also serve as a faster connection to Smiths Falls than Hwy 15.

As for this part, I’m also curious how much say MTO has for bypasses that aren’t staged freeways (in which case we may to count Highway 3 out*). Highway 7&35 Lindsay Bypass is an interesting one.
Other examples like Highway 12 Beaverton Bypass and Orillia Bypass come to mind (although the latter’s very busy even as a limited-access road).
* By the way, I’m still not happy that MTO has removed the freeway designation from the proposed St Thomas - Aylmer (ON) corridor. (The reason was that there’d still be room to upgrade the current corridor.)

Via Reddit.

Fun that we made the map and are the only city the creators felt, correctly, needed additional information

Not that I would ever make that drive, but somehow the mere existence of the Darien Gap on the Pan American Highway is mildly irritating

I agree. I want the right to drive to Terra del Fuego if I want to God dammit!

I'm serious about that BTW.

Interesting that none of the US Interstates are on that list like I-80 or I-90.

The ones in Australia and Russia, aren't large swathes of those "highways" still dirt roads? Can you really consider them a "highway?" Why else would a 14.5K km trip take 2 months (Australia) vs a 7K Km trip taking 2 weeks (Canada)?

The Pan-American Highway through Canada and the United States is a bit of a misnomer. The map shows a series of roads that could be part of the route, but it's neither signed or has a consistent number.

The article and that graphic is riddled with errors. It's also the 7 longest just as an excuse to get a couple cross-USA roads in there. Really low effort and poorly done.

During the Klein years he pushed the Alaska Canada México trade route. That is why the highway from around Grande Prairie in the north to the Sweetgrass boarder crossing is 4 lanes.

Sections of the Alaska highway through the Yukon are being upgraded as well. Through Canada its Yukon Highway 1, BC 37, AB 43,16, 216 (or60&19), 3 and 4 to the border.

Now that we have a new monarch, will we see the QE2 or the QEW or other monarchy labeled highways be renamed for the king?

No. They will retain their names. The QEW in Ontario is named for Queen Elizabeth II's Mother (AKA the Queen Mother). Unless of course there is a movement to change them to something that doesn't have to do with the monarchy.

In Ontario, highway were stilled called "King's Highways" even when QE II was the monarch.
